From Bride to Bridapotamus, 6 Days of Magical Deluxe Dining with the Hubs! Day 5* 8/4

We arrived at Le Cellier about 10 mins early

I was super excited to eat here, because this place is so hard to get a ressie for, in fact I have been trying since our first trip in 2008 to eat here so when I got in about a month before our honeymoon I was really excited. We were greeted by the hosts and handed a buzzer. We only waited for about 5 mins before we were seated. This restaurant has a very romantic feel, it's dark and lit by candles, which makes it feel very warm and cozy.

With our meal plan we both got an appetizer, entree, dessert, and a non alcoholic drink. We both ordered the signature Cheese soup.

For me the soup was ok. I think I really got my hopes up because I had wanted to eat here so badly so I was really put off to find that it wasn't the best cheese soup I have ever had. I don't like spicy things and this had a little kick to it that I didn't care for. Scott liked his, but he felt he probably could have ordered something a little better. We both gave this a 2

While we were eating our soup our server, who was very nice, got us the 3 breads that they serve here. (Sorry about the blurry image it was hard to get a good shot because it was kind of dark in here)

I can't remember exactly what the breads are, but I know one is the pretzel bread and there is a grain bread in there too. I also knew coming here that the pretzel bread is what everyone raves about so I had to try it...well to me, I have had better. The first time I tried pretzel bread was about a month before our trip at a local bakery and it was amazing. I didn't feel like the bread here held the same standard. I didn't eat much, Scott felt the same way. Neither one of us had more than one bite of the other 2.

For our entrees Scott ordered the Filet Mignon with mushroom risotto

Scott said that he liked his, but he had had better and for the price it was he didn't feel like it tasted like anything special. He said that the meat itself was good, but it was a little bland and he did not like his risotto at all. He felt the rice was too gummy and undercooked. He gave this a 1.5

I got the Medallions of Beef Tenderloin - beef with caramelized onions and french fries

I guess when I was reading the menu when I ordered I didn't realize that I would be getting french fries instead of a regular potato dish, because when they came I was confused that such a laid back dish would be served at this type of restaurant, but I was game and gave it a try. I tried the beef first. The beef was good, but not amazing. It was a little undercooked then what I ordered and didn't have much flavor. I only ate one piece of the two they gave me. I then tried my fries...I think I had it in my mouth 2 seconds before I was done. It tasted like it was marinaded in vinegar and drenched in seasalt. I did not like it at all. I know it wasn't just in my head because the couple next to us ordered, to the letter, what we ordered. The wife ate one piece of her beef medallion and none of her fries and her husband didn't touch his risotto either. I was so disappointed because this place was really expensive and though we were on the dining plan we still had to pay tip on top of what the dinner cost out of pocket so I was not happy. I sent back the fries and asked for a different potato dish. Our server, who was super accommodating, told me that they had scalloped potatoes and I love those so I ordered them.

When I got it, I tried it and though it wasn't as bad as the fries, it still wasn't very tasty. I gave the overall entree a 1.

After our entrees were weren't that excited to order dessert, but it was on the plan so we did. I ordered the trio of chocolate

This was a very sweet touch on their part to congratulate us, but I was less than impressed by the overall look of the plate. All I ate was the red piece of sugar on top of the ice cream and the piece on chocolate to the right in the picture. The chocolate was dark, which I did not know otherwise I would have ordered something else and it just didn't taste very well. I gave it a .5

Scott ordered the lemon cheesecake

He didn't like this at all. As with mine, he was not impressed with the presentation and the cheesecake was very, very, tart he said to the point that he really didn't eat much. He gave his a .5

We left a good tip because the server was awesome, but we left unsatisfied and disappointed. I think I got my hopes up really high for this place and put it on a pedestal and was really let down to find that it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. I don't think we will be coming back.

I felt the same way you did about everything. I was excited to eat at le cellier because of all the rave reviews. Ppl swear that the soup & bread are the best in this entire universe....so naturally i was expecting something good. I couldnt agree more about your description. I've honestly had far better at my local subway shop. (hey, im canadian!). I wasnt impressed with the pretzel bread either. Again, i've had far better bread in my hometown. The steak wasnt anything to write home about. I was disappointed with the amount of fat that was on it, and it was bland. I definitely wont be going back. If I want a good steak, bread, and soup, i'll go to the steakhouse down the street from my house. ;)
Love your reviews! But too bad I cant see any of the pictures! :(

That does sound like it was a pretty disappointing meal at Le Cellier. Especially for the prices... even on the dining plan, that's no excuse - and were you there for dinner or lunch? If it's dinner then that's two table service credits, so that's even worse. I planned my ADRs before I discovered the dining info on the DIS, and at first everyone was raving about Le Cellier and I was a little disappointed I didn't know about it... now I'm glad I didn't change anything to eat there!

Yeah Becky it was definitely for 2 table service credits so it was a huge bummer. Our bill was around $150 so cost us $30 for tip out of pocket :( I am glad to see that I am not the only one having problems with this. I guess I know now for the future. Is anyone else having problems seeing the pictures still?

OH wants to go back to Le Cellier but I was not impressed with either my soup or the fillet. For being their signature dishes they were not good. As you described the soup is salty, and my rice was just not right it was almost as though I were eating a dessert under my not so good steak bluergh. Italy may be a better choice.

I am glad we had the print out because the bakery was really bad about having the little snack credit emblem next to the stuff in the case. No one knew what counted as a snack credit unless you asked or had a sheet like we did. [/QUOTE said:
Can you tell me where to find this list?

I agree I really want to try Tutto Italia next time we go. We had an awesome time at Via Napoli, so I bet it's pretty good as well.

Can you tell me where to find this list?

Oh sorry I forgot to post that :cutie: Here you go: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2640292

Congratulations on the wedding!:lovestruc

Awwww I'm so sorry your food wasn't good!!!! <3 I'm a big fan of the soup and pretzel bread... mostly the bread... mostly because I'm obsessed with all things soft pretzel-like. :lmao: I can't comment on the steak, because I no longer get steak at Le Cellier... because I hate steak! I wish they still had the mashed potatoes though, now THOSE are yummy! And I agree, for those prices, there should not be french fries.

Wow! We ate at Le Cellier when on the DDP 4 years ago - and it was fantastic, outstanding, amazing! Sounds like it has really gone downhill :sad2: And isn't it a 2-credit place now :confused3

Congratulations on the wedding, and so sorry that Le Cellier was a disappointment. The place seems to be hit-or-miss, and besides a (huge) miss earlier in the year, I have to say my meals there have actually been very good. Don't know why it's inconsistent.

And I agree, for those prices, there should not be french fries.
Many high-end steakhouses charge $40+ for a piece of meat that doesn't even come with a side. Various potato sides are usually listed on the menu, and french fries happen to be quite common at steakhouses. Even Yachtsman has fries on the menu, as does Bull and the Bear at the Waldorf (probably the best steakhouse in Lake Buena Vista). Shula's doesn't have fries, but they charge $8 for a baked potato.

Glad your pics finally showed up :)
Thank you for the link to the snack thread, I will print it out closer to our trip although we plan on using all or most of our snack credits at the food and wine.

I still have not told DH that I changed our Le Cellier from dinner to lunch, not that I think he will care as long as he gets a hunk of meat he is happy :rotfl:

I know it had to hurt having to leave a $30 tip when the meal was not all that to your likeing.

You made a beautiful bride and I love your reviews so far. Thanks for sharing! Those beignets look awesome- and very appropriate with your Princess and the Frog references :) One of my favorite movies, btw!

Those zeppole looked great, too! :)

Yay! Another Disneymoon couple!

Enjoying reading your review!

We loved how Disney made us feel so special!

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Le Cellier, our meal there a few weeks ago was wonderful. Hopefully you'll have the chance to try it again and it'll redeem itself.

Bride 'n groom, beignets 'n Ohana's! :lovestruc

Congratulations, can't wait to read more.

You look gorgeous in your dress! Congratulations on getting married :goodvibes

I had the complete opposite experience at Le Cellier.
We went for lunch as soon as they opened though, so maybe this had something to do with it?

Looking forward to the rest of the review

I think they might still have the mashed potatoes, and I wish I would have ordered them when I subbed out my fries. Ah well, lol

Yeah it's 2 credits now, I really think they should go back to the 1, because all the other 2 credit places I have tried have been a lot better, it might have just been what I order, I don't know

Congratulations on the wedding, and so sorry that Le Cellier was a disappointment. The place seems to be hit-or-miss, and besides a (huge) miss earlier in the year, I have to say my meals there have actually been very good. Don't know why it's inconsistent.

Thanks so much! I bet it has a lot to do with the timing of the place, I am sure it's quite nice for many

Our honeymoon was amazing, we are so glad we picked Disney. They really have a way of making you feel special :)

Fantastic report! love your reviews. We didn't love L'cellier either i thought it was me just being a picky new yorker since we have some great steakhouses here.

looking forward to more..
oh and congratulations!

Day 3

Today was going to be an amazing day, because today was Hollywood Studios our favorite park. We both woke up super excited and headed out for our day. Once we arrived our first stop was Starring Rolls for breakfast.

SAM_0415.jpg

SAM_0416-1.jpg

As yummy as the brownies looked we opted for a more traditional option. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll (on the left) and Iced Coffee and Scott got the Cheese Danish

SAM_0417.jpg

One thing I didn't like about this place was the lack of seating outside. We opted for the benches on Sunset Blvd. The cinnamon roll was amazing. Light and fluffy, I gave it a 2 Scott liked his cheese danish, but he liked the one he had at the resort better, he gave his a 1.6

We went and saw a couple of shows and before we knew it, it was time for our 11:30 lunch ressie at the Sci Fi Diner

SAM_0434.jpg

We love this place! We first visited on our last trip and have been hooked ever since. You get to sit in cars and eat your meal while watching old sci fi clips, it's so much fun.

SAM_0438.jpg

We were seated very quickly and our waiter came right away to take our order. For my appetizer I ordered the Onion Rings and Scott ordered the Double Dip (chilli and cheese dips with tortilla chips)

SAM_0446.jpg

SAM_0447.jpg

We pretty much both shared each others. They were both really good. The onion rings were pretty standard as far as onion rings go, but the double dip was our fav. The chili and cheese dips were really tasty. We both gave both of them a solid 2

Up next it was the entrees. I ordered the Ruben with french fries

SAM_0455.jpg

and Scott ordered the Shrimp Pasta

SAM_0453.jpg

I didn't really care to much for this only because I didn't like the rye bread. The meat itself and fries were quite good, I gave it a 1.7

Scott liked his pasta, but he found it a little bland and said that it need more salt, but other than that he really loved it. He gave it a 2

After our entrees it was time for dessert. Scott ordered the hot fudge sundae

SAM_0458.jpg

I ordered the cheesecake with treats

SAM_0457.jpg

Scott enjoyed is sundae. He gave it a 2 and said it was pretty standard

When mine came out I was a bit confused, because last time ordered this item it looked completely different. Last time I ordered it there was no red velvet cake in it. It was just standard cheesecake with caramel and m&ms on it, but the CM assured me this was how it always was, hmm...is all I have to say haha. Anywho this new cheesecake was pretty good. I gave it a 2

SAM_0448-1.jpg

After lunch we rode a few more rides and then headed over to our ressie at the Brown Derby. We had a pretty early one because we had priority seating at Fantasmic!

SAM_0503-2.jpg

We really love this place as well. My goal for this trip was to try all new things so I was super excited.

SAM_0508-2.jpg

We were seated after about 10 mins so not too bad. After we were seated the CM took our drink order and brought our bread

SAM_0510.jpg

SAM_0511.jpg

It was pretty good. Scott ordered water and the CM brought this out

SAM_0512.jpg

Fancy!

We put in our entree and appetizer order. We both ordered the Cobb Salad for our appetizer. We had never had this before, its one of the house specials.

SAM_0514.jpg

Salad before it was tossed

SAM_0516.jpg

After tossed

Scott really like his he gave it a 2.5 I didn't really like this and the only reason why was because I don't like tomatoes and forgot to ask for them on the side and there was a lot of blue cheese which I thought made it taste super strong. I gave it a 1.6

For our entrees Scott ordered the Charred Grilled Filet of Beef 8oz (you can get either 6 or 8 oz for the same price on the dining plan)

SAM_0522.jpg

Scott loooooooved this! He said it was one of the best filets he had ever had and we had a lot of this trip. He gave it a 2.9

I ordered the Duck Two Ways it came with springrolls and couscous

SAM_0523.jpg

The springrolls were really good. I didn't really care for the spinach on the duck and the couscous was just ok for me. I gave it 1.5

Time for dessert! We both ordered the cheesecake

SAM_0524.jpg

This was very good, we gave the cheesecakes both solid 2's

By now we were so full we just took it easy the rest of the day and headed out after Fantasmic. An overall awesome day, this was the most fun we had on our trip thus far!

Up Next, a day full of Magic Kingdom food!

Great reviews, I'm really enjoying them.
Congratulations on your marriage and many happy years!
