Frighteningly Long Line for the Skyliner at Park Close

Saturday night January 30 I was staying at the boardwalk. I was coming back from ale and compass and the line for the skyline was past the start of the beach club probably went to almost the middle of beach club. This was at 8:40. Them poor people staying at pop and animators figure they had another wait to get to their resort. If I had to use that line I would of went to the beach club and ordered me a Uber.

My wife and I took a trip to BWV last week.

On Friday evening at park close we sat on a bench at the International Gateway exit and watched the line grow to get on the Skyliner. We sat there for a while people watching, maybe 20 minutes. Then we started back to BWV. The line for the Skyliner went all the way back to the entrance to BCV! It was that long and still growing.

The Skyliner was running normally and although there was social distancing at work the groups boarding the Skyliner were essentially one long line. It must have been an hour wait to get on the Skyliner when we walked away.

For the poor folks at The Riviera, Carribean Beach, and further down stream on the Skyliner that is a loooooong wait. I don't even want to know if this "line" was repeated at the station that goes to DHS.

To me this looks like a "baked in" problem on the Skyliner. So if you plan on using the Skyliner out of International Gateway get there before park close or you could have a long wait.
When we went in November the line was long at closing - but the wait was at most 20 minutes. So still a big improvement over a bus.

To be fair they wouldn't have another wait since its always loading so they would walk straight across and directly on to the ride vehicle.

As far as the wait getting an Uber/Lyft is another good option if plans fall flat and you end up in the line.

During the current time with 1 party per gondola and shorter park hours more people are all leaving at the same time so you just want to plan ahead.

Can’t those people walk to the front of the park and take a bus still? Even though they have allowed more of the seating to be used on the buses. Not many can get on them probably about 25-30 people.

The line for the Skyliner at park closing just doesn't seem to justify the uptick in price for AoA and Pop. I seen this first hand at Epcot in October. This past week, I Ubered to HS to avoid the lines that I have read about in the mornings. I did use it just fine about mid day to go back to AoA, but I knew better than to try such at "peak" times.

We stayed at Hollywood Studios until close the Saturday after New Year's. The line looked shockingly long. Honestly though, the worst part was the walk to the end of the line and back to the station because the line was constantly moving. Probably a 20 minute wait, but the social distancing made the line seem like it went on forever. Once we got on, with the transfer to Riviera, it took less than 10 minutes. Overall, a 30 minute total wait, I didn't really mind it.

Options:
  • HS park closing just go over to the Epcot station and get on from there if the line is long
  • Leave Epcot a little earlier
  • Tour the Boardwalk/Beach Club area until around 1hr past park closing and then walk back
  • Plan on getting dinner right before park closing at Epcot to avoid the rush

Can't say I know the uptick in cost though so can't say if its "worth it" or not. I find all the hotels to be drastically overpriced. While DVC is expensive I can at least justify it a little easier.

I have brought it up here but at least for the Skyliner I can do a fairly good job planning for it. With a bus that just doesn't show up or possibly just left there is nothing I can do to cut down on the wait.
