Tuesday 29th October

Tonight was our second time at Animator’s Palate and, thanks to reading lots of trip reports prior to our cruise, I knew that something special was going to happen. We just about had enough time to rinse off the dirt of the day and make ourselves pretty for the night ahead.

We managed to arrive on time and sat back at our usual table (no table-swapping tonight). We posed for a picture with our wonderful server, Toto.

Toto explained that we needed to draw a self-portrait on the sheets at our places on the table. I absolutely hate drawing but I wanted to have a go. A warning to all – on the sheet it does tell you to stay within the outline. My husband did not read the warning and drew outside the lines, hence his figure looked a bit odd when it was up on screen. So, if you want it to work properly, STAY INSIDE THE LINES PEOPLE!

We had a lot of fun creating our ‘stick selves’.

I was a little disappointed to discover that the dinner menu was a set menu for the appetiser and soup course, with a choice of just three items for main and a set dessert menu.

Being something of a picky eater, I hate set menus with a passion as there is rarely anything I will enjoy. Tonight was no exception and none of us wanted the appetiser. Gary ordered the soup, which was a baked potato soup, I believe.

Daniel ordered the kids’ vegetable and fruit salad appetiser as even he didn’t like the adult offering.

For main, he chose a roasted chicken breast complete with Mickey ketchup.

I was boring and just got steak and baked potato.

It tasted as boring and plain as it looked and I didn’t eat much at all.

Before we ordered dessert, the ‘show’ began and pretty soon our little people were dancing across the screen in front of our eyes.

It was really clever and one of the best things I have seen on the Disney cruise. We all loved it, kids and adults alike. Pretty soon the credits rolled and the show was over.

Despite my disappointment in the menu tonight, even I couldn’t fail to be happy when Toto brought me this.

It was only after I’d eaten my Mickey bar that I noticed somebody at the next table being brought a yummy looking cheesecake. I hadn’t noticed that on the menu and mentioned it to Toto. Next thing, Toto presented a piece of cheesecake to me with a flourish.

I had a couple of bites, then gave some to Daniel as I felt we ought to finish it after Toto had been so kind as to get it for me.

As soon as dinner was over, we went back to the room to get changed. Tonight’s towel animals were an anteater and (I think) a frog, complete with sunglasses!

We also had a message waiting on the phone, from the manager at the Port Adventures desk. I tried to call him back but no answer. His message had said he would be at the desk from 7.30 until 9, so we decided to go and visit him in person. Daniel rushed off to meet Abby at The Edge and Gary, Sian and I went to check out our pictures again, hoping to see some from the Aquaduck. The pictures were disappointing (let’s face it, I’m never going to like a picture of me in a bikini!) but there was a great picture of Daniel and Sian with Phineas and Ferb, which had been taken the day before.

While we were at Shutters, we looked across and saw Char and family with Jen, Rob and Logan across the way waiting for a picture with one of the characters (you can just see them beyond the awesome chandelier).

Sian and I went back to the Port Adventures desk while Gary went to save us a couple of seats in the theater. Unfortunately, despite his message the manager was not available so we left a message of our own and went to meet Gary. He wasn’t answering the wave phone so we crept in the left side upstairs at the back and sat down. I sent Gary a message to let him know where we were and he came to join us. Tonight’s show was Wishes, a story about high school friends who go on a graduation trip to Disneyland Resort. To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy this show at all. It is the only time a show on DCL has left me cold. I would have preferred to skip it completely. After dinner, we had a wander around the shops and then decided to get an early night.

I was a bit peckish after the disappointing dinner so we ordered some fries and cookies from room service.

Gary watched TV and I read my Kindle and we were soon asleep.

Could eat that Mickey ice cream now! :thumbsup2
