friend's 5 yr old son on a vent with pneumonia pg 20

Please send positive thoughts and prayers to my friend's son who has pneumonia and is on a vent. He is 5 and his name is Kyree. His mom is devastated. He is a fighter and has a strong will. The doctors are saying it is very serious and very bad.

Prayers for them both that doctors find the right treatment and that his strong little body is able to fight it off.

my god..this hit close to home..i have a 5year old who has bad asthma and has had pneumonia and we also live in the northeast..its so scary iknow..dr's have to give u the worse scenario but please tell ur friend to trust in them that they will help and though im not very religious i do believe in the the power of prayer , being positive, and passing along good energy. saying a little prayer here in jersey.please keep us posted..

Oh no, that is terrible. My DS had it when he was 5 too. One day his cough sounded like any other cough then the next day when he woke up it changed, the pitch changed. I knew right away something was wrong and brought him into the Dr even though 3 days earlier they said he was fine. It can happen so very fast. Sure enough he had Pneumonia in the lower portion of his left lung. The Dr let me listen with a stethoscope and that part of his lung sounded crinkly, like he had cellophane in there. Thank heavens it responded quickly to antibiotics. I hope your friend's little boy responds quickly soon too.

Sending lots of prayers to Kyree and his family! I was on a vent with pneumonia 10.5 years ago after giving birth to my daughter. The doctors said that what saved me was my fighting spirit and youth. I pray that Kyree will fight and win against this illness.

I am a respiratory therapist and work with vented patients, but primarily in an adult ICU, I haven't done peds in years. Kids get so sick, so quick, but they also respond and can completely turn around in such a short period of time it can be amazing. If his pneumonia is bad enough that he had to be intubated, he is a sick kiddo. Once he gets the right antibiotics/meds on board he will hopefully turn around quickly and get off the vent, until then just think that it is giving him all the oxygen and support that he needs without him having to work for it and spend his engery struggling to breathe, he needs that energy to get well first!

I am wishing a speedy recovery for him!
