friend's 5 yr old son on a vent with pneumonia pg 20

How terribly sad. I'm glad I wasn't following the thread over the weekend...it would have been too much for me.

Sid's service was glorious. The 1200 seat sanctuary was totally filled, with overflow in the church fellowship hall. Sid's wife looked beatific - I guess it's the peace that passeth all understanding. There were so many teens and young adults there to support the kids. My son came home from college and my girls signed out of school to attend. I think that pretty much the whole church youth choir was there to support the son. He plays baseball, so his team was there in force in their jerseys.

And with Sid and Kyree, we're left to wonder why. Thousands of people praying, and we all get the answers we don't want. I wonder if Sid and Kyree have met each other yet. Sid was a great dad, so maybe they're playing catch right now.

:sad1:

Oh my gosh, I am soo sorry for the loss of Kyree and Sid! :sad1: My thoughts are with the families, how very sad.

Missy I am so thankful that Sid's funeral was such a positive one and that people celebrated Sid's life and rallied around his family. The comment about Sid and Kyree meeting playing catch made me cry but in a good way. Just a reminder that there are good people taking care of him even now.

Thanks again to all the people that prayed and have send kind caring thoughts. When the time is right I hope Kyree's mom can see how many people Kyree's life touched. Thank you.

You can count me as a life definitely touched. And I changed my mind about getting my kids vaccinated for H1N1, so it could really have been life changing.

Keeping his family and friends in my prayers.:grouphug:

I'm completely stunned by this terrible news. It's strange to feel so invested in someone I have never met, to be sitting here crying for a child I do not know, but this story did touch me. It touched us all. My heart breaks for his mother, for his entire family, and his little friends. May God be with them. They need it now more than ever.

Thank you for keeping us updated, Jewel1310. I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers as well.

I have heard it said, that strangers are just friends we haven't met yet. :grouphug: We all "met" Kyree on this thread, and one day we will meet him in eternity. I also teared up at the thoughts of him playing catch with Sid.

Also, in case all the prayer warriors here haven't seen it, I would like to invite you to this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2322345 to pray for a single mom of 3, also on ECMO from H1N1. :sad1:

ETA - looks like she's on BiVAD and not ECMO, but still extremely critical. :sad1:

I am so so sorry to report that Kyree passed on late last night. His mother was with him.

Kyree fought hard. His strength was evident through each of the many days he was in the PICU. Kyree's mom was an amazing advocate for her son. In the midst of such an intense and scary thing she kept people updated so they could know how Kyree was doing and keep praying for him. It is obvious where Kyree got his fighting spirit. No one could have done more for their son.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kyree's mom and brother. I am so sorry for their loss. I can't imagine dealing with this and am so sorry they have to. Prayers for Kyree's extended family, for the many friends that care about Kyree and his mom and his brother, for Kyree's classmates.

Thank to all of you for taking the time out of your lives to pray and send positive thoughts for a little boy that you didn't even know. The out pouring of concern was inspiring. I am so sorry to pass on the sad news. Thank you for caring.

Oh no Jewel.
Oh no.
I'm so so sorry. At work Sunday in NICU we all said a prayer (those that wanted) for all the children we had lost that week. I will add his name this coming week.
I had hoped the ECMO would get him through it.:sad1:

Thank you so much for posting this link. I had missed this thread. :sad2:

Please tell Kyree's mom that there are many people praying for her and the rest of their family and friends.

Poppins thank you for the amazing work you do caring for the most vulnerable of us all. I can't imagine how hard that must be but am grateful for you and all the medical staff that work such critical jobs day in day out.

All the kind messages from everyone who has posted is so kind. Thank you.

Jewel, if it's not too painful, can you tell us what Kyree looked like?

Our local news had a story at 5pm about him. There was a picture. He was a very cute little boy with beautiful curls. I checked the station's website but there was no picture there.

Kyree was a very beautiful little boy. While lovely, the photo on the above link doesn't do him justice. We were putting collages together for his viewing. Such aa adorable little boy. I don't think I can ask his mom to post a picture right now but if in the future that option exists I will see if I can do so.

edited to add - I found this site that has the picture a bit clearer http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/11/adams_county_boy_dies_from_h1n.html

Thanks again for caring!
