My friend with lupus is starting to lose her hair. First of all, is anyone familure with this? Is this typical?
Also, where can I find "hair wraps" (something pretty) online? Any other suggestions?

Sorry to hear your friend is experiencing this, I know how difficult it can be. Sounds like you are being a great friend!

Here are some links to purchase wraps online:
Happy Heads has some nice head wraps that I have used personally:

The Women's Personal Health Resource:

I'm not sure where you live but locally we have a couple of apothecary/large specialty stores that sell these for those experiencing temporary or permanent hair loss. Another good resource might be a local cancer center or support group in your area--they usually know the best places to purchase these. We also have a program (don't know if it is just local or not) where a fabric store (JoAnn Etc..) supplies the patterns and those in the community sew basic head wraps and donate them. You might want to see if they do this in your community.

HTH!

Those look like nice links. Thanks for sharing.
if you haven't already visited it, there is also a Lupus Foundation Website. I didn't see anything there about hair loss, but there are links to local chapters, which might know of some resources in your area.

My Mom had lupus....now they are testing me...Yikes...but that's another story. She lost her hair like your friend is and I wish she had had such nice hair wraps to choose from! Her hair did come back by the way so this may not be permanent for your friend. He hair was never quite as thick as before but she looked fine. BTW, she lost her eyebrows and lashes too so you might want to get ready to support your friend throught this too. She is lucky to have you!

Thanks for all the tips. Sue, I'm going to check out that web site tonight.
My friend also has a "lump" that has appeared at the base of her skull - back of the head near the hair loss. Anyone know of this sort of thing? Just all part of the "lupus"?

Also, this has been such a downer for her. We are planning on going to disney this Feb. - any suggestions for a surprise for her? I try to make the trip as special as possible, but I'm running out of ideas. I'm making a gift basket - thought of flowers. But I really wanted to "wow" her - you know, help her to feel "alive?" She loved the trip last year. It really helped.

If I were you I would call "Gifts of a lifetime" and ask for their help and suggestions. Their employees are called "pixies" and "pixiedust" is what they do best. Just go into yahoo and type in Gifts of a lifetime and you should find them. I know there has been lots about them on these boards but we can't search right now. Good luck and have fun! Having a friend like you should be a major "wow" in and of itself.

Yes-Jane is terrific, I have used her services and they were great! I had some baskets put in our rooms thru her service and they were wonderful--can't say enough about her. Here's the link:

We also did the "Catching the Magic-Photo Event" for our trip in Sept and the pics are truly awesome. SO nice to have pics of everyone in the party and not to worry about setting it all up.

Also--here a link to celebrating special occasions at WDW from the Disney Dollarless pages. While it talks more about b-day surprises, it has some good ideas:

Jane and the Pixies are a great idea. We haven't used them, but I have read a lot of the trip reports where people have used them for great surprises. They seem really inventive and have come up with some unique ways to surprise people.
