Friend going to MK for first time... one day only... need advice

I'm usually pretty good at providing a plan to people but this is a bit unique (for me). They have never been before and are going for only one day to MK, then one day for each of the Universal parks. They have two kids aged 12 and 8 but really have no idea if they are tall enough to ride everything.

Anyway, they are going to MK on Thursday. Which of course is the worst day to go since it looks like MK has AM EMH that day. So I told him he would need to get there by 8 to ensure they can hit RD. But then what?

They are staying off site so cannot pre-plan FP+. Do they go straight to the FP+ kiosk? I don't have kids so really don't know which rides he should prioritize. I mentioned Peter Pan is one people usually focus on because lines can get backed up due to ride inefficiency. Space Mountain and Buzz are some others. Etc.

Basically I guess another way to ask would be...

If you were staying off site and going to MK on Thursday how would you attack it? Remember, AM EMH at the park so on site guests will already be inside.

There is no way to prepare them for their day. If it was me, I would check the park hours, give them that info and tell them to have a great time exploring! If they do a full RD to closing day, they should be able to hit most of the park and have a great, albeit exhausting, day!

I am sorry I can't help about the FP plus part of your question.. but the rest I would say it depends on a few things-- do the kids like thrill rides? or the parents?

We usually head straight back to Fantasyland, but we've always had little girls that wanted to ride Peter Pan and see Belle's storytime.

If I had kids that were older and liked thrill rides-- I would say head to Space Mountain or head to Thunder Mountain RR.

good luck! My advice would echo yours-- get there as close to opening as you can... and my other advice for people is to eat early-- 11 and 5-- avoids lines and everything is freshly opened and clean
