Friend called yesterday on last day of discount and CM told her this..

my friend put her deposit down on a late summer trip yesterday, the last day for the spring/late summer discount and my friend was asking her if she knew if the current discount would be extended? The CM told her she didn't know but in the past they have been told a week or before the expiration that would be extended and it was.. But, then the CM said to her and I quote " But, we have been told that there will be NO other discount programs for the rest of the year"

Do you think there is any truth to this?

No, I don't think there is any truth to it. Maybe a new discount isn't going to be released immediately, but I would bet money that more discounts *will* be coming...not because I know for sure, I just think it will be...

Let's look at this from a sales point of view. The CM got the booking by giving your friend a reason to act now. The CMs on the phone have no motivation to tell people to book whenever they feel like it. I'm not sure how the compensation works but I've read here that CMs get credit for the original booking, even if it's later modified to include a discount. I don't think this has any bearing on future discounts or occupancy levels. Just a sales person trying to close the deal.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. They'll say what they need to say. I have worked in a similar industry and I can hear it in the call. I can hear the pitch, I can hear the close, I can hear them touch on the points they need to touch on.
Most call centers are subject to random Quality Assurance calls where the employee is listened in on without their knowledge and graded.. so they're never going to deviate too far from the allowable script.

I would be suprised if they offered 40% off up until yesterday and all of a sudden they don't need any more bookings for the rest of the year. Makes no sense to offer deep deep discoutns and all of a sudden nothing.

Have booked a lot (170) of trips to WDW and never had a CM try and sell me a thing. They would tell me what available discount wise if I ask but have never ever tried to sell dining etc. It is to bad if one CM did say that there are no more discounts rest of the year as that is something that a CM would not know "until" WDW released it to her the morning of the discount. Have a very good friend that works there in reservations and she does not know until they receive morning reports when they clock in the day of release. So if you wait it shall come in some form and then you can rebook your trip if the new discounts to come are better than you have. also all conversations are recorded there. Personally I look for free dining promo to come back into the fall.

I hope everyone is right because we are going the week of June 20th to the GF and right now there are no garden rooms avaialable, YC is sold out, BC - Club level only and CR - TPV only. I hope they are holding back rooms because if not, the deluxes seem pretty full.

I doubt that Disney would hold back rooms especially for a discount therefore loosing the chance to have someone book it all full price. That just doesnt make good business sense.

I agree - there is no way they are holding back available rooms to later offer them cheaper. That makes no sense at all. They would rather they book them NOW at full price and not offer discounts later.

I agree with you about them not holding back rooms, but other posters have mentioned them holding back rooms. Based on bookings for the week we are going it does look like rooms are being filled without a discount. The only thing offered for that week was the free dining pins that went out. I am not very hopeful for summer discounts being released!!!!!

Having been an avid Disney Discount stalker for many years - I am also confident in saying there is no way Disney will not offer any discount of any kind for the rest of the year. Who know what the discounts will be, or for when they will be offered..(maybe Disney doesn't even know for sure) but there is no way Disney is going to just wait and hope for people to book full price vacations for the next 9 months.
And I 100% agree - they are not holding back rooms - makes no sense - if they can fill them up at full price..they will and in many cases can. They are not going to hold them back in hopes of booking them at a lesser price.

I can believe no more summer discounts (through the end of the summer high season), particularly since room availability for June & July is starting to look pretty slim. But I can't believe no more discounts at all this year, because the slowest time of the year - late Aug through end Sept, when it is summer-hot, peak hurricane season, and schools are back in session - is still to come. Something will come for late summer/early fall... The only question is what/how good the offer will be.

For me it was the counter service cashier girl. I believe what she said was.. "Enjoy that meal.. it's the last free one you are getting from Disney all year lady!"
