DH, DS14 and I went to see this tonight and really, really enjoyed it. Especially if you like football movies, this one was done really well. Man, those Texans sure take their high school football seriously:earseek: For the life of me, I can't recall where I've seen the actor who plays the quarterback before, but I remember his face and his accent. He was very good. I give it 2 thumbs up.::yes::

Lucas Black, from Speake, Alabama! He played in Slingblade, Crazy in Alabama, All The Pretty Horses, and a few other films.

I remember being proud of him when he was little because he was from my neck of the woods, but boy! We saw the movie tonight and all I could think was, he sure has grown up! Such the little hottie!

Texans do take their football very seriously. It will be an adjustment for me when my girls get into highschool. I don't think it's as bad as it once was, the stories about Odessa & Midland where the story is based are legends. I didn't even attend HS in Texas but I've heard some of it.

It got good reviews, I'll have to put it on my list to prepare me for HS.

I just got back from seeing it. While it was good, I guess I was expecting more. Predictable and formulaic in some places, surprising in others. Not on par with "Remember the Titans" or "Hoosiers", but good nonetheless. Three stars.

The actor that played QB is Lucas Black II. Most recently in "Cold Mountain"

I'm glad everyone is liking the movie. I'm a big Tim McGraw fan as you can tell and he does a really good job in the film.

I'm going to go see it here in a couple of hours. I'm interested to see if it's like the book. Interesting side note.... The championship game in the movie was filmed here in the Astrodome (the real game was held in Dallas). I know someone who was there when they were filming and they said the stadium smelled very strongly of mildew from having sat for so long without being used :p

I went to HS with a guy who transferred in from Odessa. Every Friday he would wear his MOJO T-shirt to school to try and give our team some luck. It didn't work too good as at one point we had a 16 game losing streak spread over three years.

I saw Tim McGraw on Friday night and his show was awesome! I am really looking forward to seeing this movie. I love sports movies.

Yes, he did do a good job. I didn't realize it was him at first without the cowboy hat. :) . I think his performance was the best in the movie. Billy Bob Thornton sort of mailed it in, I thought.

We went to see it last night. I love Tim McGraw too and I was a bit surprised that he was willing to play that kind of part looking hungover, hair messed up etc. but that just shows he can get into a role and isn't so full of himself that he has to play pretty boy roles. My sons are 9 and 11 and play football. My 11 year old has played for 3 years now. This is my nine year old's first year and his coach is laid back and wants them to have fun. My 11 year olds coaches (who are friends of ours since our group of kids also play baseball and basketball together) take football VERY seriously. They were football players in high school and 2 played in college. Our boys practice more than the high school team does. I kid you not. Our coaches start having our boys train HARD. We got 2nd in our district one year and then won the championship the last 2 years. We've also gone to invitational "Bowl" games and faced teams from Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas and won every one we've been in. So the hard work pays off BUT at what cost? Friday Night Lights really hit home with dh and I. (Guess who we went to see the movie with? Ds's head coach and his wife who are also parents of my dd's bf) We saw so many similarities to even our 11 year old team that it is scary. And yes, we have a parent who is the character Tim McGraw played. Sad. :(

Just got home. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Even though the game at the end is a matter of historical record, I still found myself on the edge of my seat for most of it.

One thing I didn't like, sort of a pet peeve of mine, is the trend the past few years to film more and more movies with that "washed out" look to the color.
