I have two more weeks to call in for my airline ticket to LA. The guy that answered today said I am calling in so early that I should get a flight. How do people like getting a flight with your miles, the same or differnt then buying a ticket?

Gail, One of the hardest segments that I had to satisfy was from LAX home on our Hawaii trip for next summer. I had no problem with DH's and my first class ticket from LAX TO ATL TO BDL but our DSs had to go through SLC and home with an 8 hour layover. Don't assume that it will be easy. Call at midnight when the inventory goes in 330 days ahead. If the flights are loaded at that time, call back until they are. DSs were on a wait list since Sept but it cleared two weeks ago so we are all on the same flight home.

I know frequent flyer tickets to popular destinations are very hard to get. I tried to get PIT-LAX back in the fall for late April and they were soldout. I just looked at PIT-MCO for late October, all that is left is late afternoon departures and early morning returns, which in effect cuts 2 days off your vacation.

Also remember you will have to do the same thing, (getting up at midnight) for the return. Don't wait until the return is in the inventory to book the outbound.

I was so dissapointed last night, I called for my miles, it was to sooon but I got someone in India, he booked it, I was all excited but he booked October, I'll try again on my outbound right before the 19th, then go back right before the 25th, I am hopeing I get my flights.

What date are you trying to fly and when are you supposed to call for it. Call during the day and ask them specifically to count the days for you so there is no mix up. They know how far their calendar goes.

I have done that but I always get someone in India that I can't understand...I know they get paid less then in America but heck, I wish I could talk to my own.

Delta has a very nice web site for booking reward tickets.
The trouble is, for coveted destinations, they are gone before they are posted. I have found that I have had no choice but to play the "call at midnight" game and try to grab them before someone else does. That said, the per centage of award seats on Delta is higher per airline miles than the other airlines.

Last year someoneposted a number for delta frequent flyer miles and it was always directed to the US. Does anyone have that number, I don't have the calmness to talk to someone in another country that I do not understand

Yup, you have to play the 330 days out at midnight game. It's so stupid. You are rewarded for being a frequent flyer on their airline this way
I was able to secure 4 seats to Alaska this way. But, even by doing this they said we could only fly first class. Which is great, but we didn't want to use so many miles. I think it's all a scam.
The other good thing about Delta is they have many partners.

As someone above said, if the airline doesn't have what you want, try one of their partners. Customer service may not look up that info for you if you aren't pushy. I managed to get 2 tickets for May this past week, nonstop to Europe, by using the partner option.
