A section of a satellite cover launched from a French Ariane rocket washed up on the beach very near the DVC Beach House Saturday night. The piece included a notation - "Made in France". :) This is very near the spot where a small plane crashed killing a man walking on the beach a couple of months ago.

Here is a link to the article from today's Island Packet newspaper:

The HH Fire Dept. removed the space junk early this morning. The FAA investigated the incident and handed it off to the NTSB. It now sits at the HH Fire Dept until NTSB officials decide what to with the debris.

It was on the beach about 30 yards north of the Disney Beach House and they brought in some heavy equipment to haul it off the beach. You can see the Beach House at the upper right of the bottom photo.

Holy cow! Are you there now, Rob?

Yes, we just got back from a bike ride and a walk on the beach. You can still see where the junk was on the beach , but the only thing left there now is the tracks from the equipment used to haul it off. It was at the high tide mark, although once it was discovered, they secured it so it would not wash back out into the ocean before it could be removed.

Here is a photo of the beach taken about 2 hours ago. It was almost low tide and the area of the beach where the debris had been located is in the right center of the pic - just beyond and to the left of the life guard umbrella on the right. I was about 50 yards north of the area. The HH beach was almost 75 yards wide at low tide today. Surf temp is 77.
