Freezer space

My kids are pretty heat intolerant, so we're planning our trip for after Thanksgiving. If the temps are still in the 70s or 80s during the day, the boys are going to need to wear their cooling vests. We have the kinds with the ice packs in them, and we're staying at the Contemporary. It just occurred to me that the little fridge in the room probably doesn't have a freezer, or if it does, it's probably pretty small.

Any ideas about what I can do?

If the freezer is too small for the cooling packs, I would bring a cooler (or have one delivered to the resort). I would then place the packs for the vests in it and fill it full of ice. If you were to do this and keep the ice filled so that it packed around the packs real well, it should work to re-chill the ones for their vest.

There is a small freezer in most of the fridges in the room, but it is only big enough for about 2 bottles of water.

I haven't stayed there, but I know the little one we get at POP for medical use doesn't have much freezer space at all. We were able to fit a few small ice packs in it though for our coolers. When we go I take lots of water for my son and put clothes on him that will dry fast and aren't heavy. He always has a hat too. We have the cooling wraps for our necks too. The have gel in it, and all you have to do is wet them. We kept them in the cooler when we didn't need them to keep them even colder. Where do you get the cooling vests at?

Thanks. :) The cooler idea makes a lot of sense.

As for where we got the vests? I made them. They're very similar to this one, but at a much reduced price. http://www.stacoolvest.com/child-cooling-vest.php

I was going to suggest the same thing.
We have a fairly large collapsable cooler bag that we bought at Sam's Club. They are fairly inexpensive and they sell them to use to bring your frozen food home without melting.
Fill one of those with ice and it should keep your cooling packs very cool. We used our bag to bring some frozen chicken to a picnic to barbecue, thinking it would thaw like in the refrigerator. It was still frozen totally solid 5 hours later.

If you I'll need to change them out during the day, you should be able to bring packs with you and store them in First Aid.

I'll check out the bags at Sam's the next time I'm there. I hadn't thought about it, but we'll need to keep the ice packs insulated while we're flying and I figure I can also use it in the park to keep the kids' drinks cold too. Such a good idea, I'm a little embarassed I was so stumped. :upsidedow

Thanks again!

That’s OK.
Sometimes we are too close to a situation to see what is obvious to other people.
