We have sky in the house, this is only because we live in a poor reception area for the aerial to pick up tv channels.

We have a aerial on the roof but it picks up very little if anything at all.

We are looking at buying a tv for the conversatory, my question is does the digital boxes have to connect to the aerial, and if it does will we pick anything up or will it just be a waste of money.

If you are getting a 'normal' digi box ie not one from Sky then you will need it connected to a tv aerial and sometimes if it is an older style aerial it will need to be upgraded to get the signal from the digital transmiter. First of all you need to see if the transmitter near you is digital or not as some transmiters still don't broadcast the digital signal.

If You Live In A Cabled Area Virgin Media Are Offering Free Digi Box When You Go With Them For Phone Insted Of Bt And It Has A Cpl More Ch Then Freeview And Its Free Aslong As Ur On The Phone With Us

Thanks for the link Claire. We are going to look into the freesat from sky.

As to virgin we have looked into it, but we are tied to our landline for another 12months.

We've a freeview box and a very old aerial (it was on the house when we moved in 20 years ago). We get OK reception - but I think we are in a fairly strong signal area. (Mind you if it gets windy we do get a noticable degrade in reception.)
