Just FYI, we are here now, and we’re only seeing the special HHN freestyle cups being sold. You probably can get a regular freestyle if you ask for it (or an AP one if you ask and have an AP), but at all the kiosks, I only saw stacks of the HHN and that was the default if you bought a new one. We bought ours in City Walk and we’re not offered a regular option. I have not been over to IOA this trip, so this is based on my observations in Studios and City Walk.

it's okay. The doubt is rather if one buys it during the day, if it can continue to be used in the hhn or if it is necessary to buy a new recharge since it is an individual event.

When you buy it, it is good until 2 am the following day. The chip is the same, and UO doesn’t know or care which park you use it in. Remember that City Walk and IOA are both open when HHN is going on, and Universal isn’t going to turn off the chip in some places for some cups but not others. People do come and go between the parks during HHN (last year IoA had death eaters so we popped over there part of one night to see them even though we were at HHN), and people leave to eat in City Walk.

Non-HHN cups are available in some places. I got one last week at a stand near the entry of IOA. The recharge does last all day including HHN. We charged ours in the morning and used them until we left HHN.
