Last time we flew to Orlando we went with Virgin. The kids got their K-iD packs as normal (good bags, poor contents).

When we arrived we told the kids to make sure they'd got everything. When we got to the hotel we found that Zoe (aged 6) really had packed everything, included her headphones and Virgin blanket !

Anyway that's enough waffle. My question is really, what's the best freebies your kids have ever had ?

LOL not sure about kids.
But when we went lastyear it was dp's first ever time abroad nevermind going to america, and when we boarded he bagged everything, blankets, headphones, the lot! i didnt realise, when we got to the hotel, i unloaded the flight bag which was heavy, when i opened it there was blankets, pillows, everything LOL, he didnt know they was only for use on the plane he thought they was all free!
Needless to say he felt utterly stupid, and i couldnt stop laughing lol....

As for DD not sure ill have to think on that one :)

We are flying with Virgin this year are these blankets any good LOL ;)

We have flown with Virgin for the last 8 years to Orlando and since flying with them recently to/from South Africa we have decided never to fly with them again. They have put their prices up by £250 per person compared to last year (booking 330 days before departure).

I wrote to them two weeks ago on our return with a few complaints and just received a reply with £100 voucher (gee thanks). They still blames 9/11 - how convenient. The Kids Pack was empty apart from a crayon type pen. Our complimentary bags (swimming bags) were half the normal size and again with half the items missing. The staff are rude and can't be bothered. Their seat pitch is just 1" (30") bigger than charter compared to other scheduled flights which range between 30" and 34"'s.

They are getting too big for their boots and are taking advantage - so we have decided to use other airlines and hit them where it hurts most.

Sorry for the rant but I feel better for it and just a warning "don't get too excited about the complimentary goodies" they are making cutbacks in a big way.

I agree with onlyholly - we've been flying Virgin for the last 5 years. Our recent trip to St Lucia was also flying Virgin and we were very lucky indeed to be upgraded for free (from PE) to Upper Class. This was a huge experience - thank you Virgin - but we all agreed that we wouldn't pay the £2500 extra of our own money for it. That said, I'd not turn it down again - the differences were amazing.

The "goody bags" - both the amenity kits and the KiD bags - have reduced contents even from a couple of years ago. On the St Lucia route not much at all in DDs bag (we've so many of these backpacks we gave Katies to our housekeeper in St Lucia - she thought it was marvellous for her children so pleased about that). No sweeties, but one of their coloured pencil thingies and a book for 5 year olds (DD's 10 with a reading age of 14 . . . she conquered that book in an hour, but actually it was a good book for younger little uns). The best part for her was the Virgin kids activity book which did keep her amused. It had the usual red baseball cap and a rubic's cube keyring.

Never particularly wanted to take one of their blankets, but in Upper Class you got a duvet and 'proper' pillow . . . now I think they might have noticed me trying to stuff those little beauties in my hand luggage:p.

When we flew Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong and then on to the Philippines, the kids freebies were superb - all Winnie the Pooh branded stuff, excellent quality and we're still using loads of the bags now for swimming, beach etc. Beat Virgin's stuff hands down.

Still, at the end of the day, as long as the plane gets me there in the best possible comfort and safety, that's really all I'm interested in - the freebies etc are a nice extra (one thing I was disappointed in Upper Class - no lip salve - I live on Virgin Vie's little pots of lip salve all year:) ).

Have the contents of the bags been reduced on the Orlando routes, do you know?

Next year we're flying BA into Orlando. Does anybody know what their kids goodie bag is like ?

Ooo just noticed 200 posts. Must have too much time on my hands !

When we went with BA in 2001 (which we preferred to Virgin BTW) the stewards came round with an armful of stuff from Hamleys - games, colouring things etc and the kids could pick out what they wated to have - so there was no individual bag of stuff. I can't remember what else they gave them, other than the fact that the kids' meals came in a proper hard plastic 'lunch box' which they could (and did!) take away with them.

Don't know if it's still the same - we're going with BA again in August so we'll find out then!

Just got back from oz and BA didn't have any of the 8-11 kits on had but Zach got a couple of the 2-7 bags - all Disney stuff, magazine, games, crayons in a great Winnie the Pooh swimming bag
