My carrier O2 has a pre-order bolt on package for travelling abroad.
It is £20 for 20mb or £50 for 50mb. Not that great IMHO as you could easily use this amount of data :)

I'm with o2 too. If I purchased the 20mb do you reckon (best I guesses) that this would be enough to check emails maybe once a day? Does this cover texts etc.
 
Would depend on what was in the emails. If they were just text only then yes, 20mb is quite a lot and unless you were talking hundreds of emails then you should be fine. However if there are attachments (documents, pictures etc) then it would eat it up in no time.

Edit: Oh, and if you're accessing your mail via webmail and a browser then getting to that would eat bandwidth too.
