I see people post about getting free upgrades at the WDW resorts... we are staying at ASMo in March. I already asked for a refrigerator. Is it possible to get the $10/night waived, or upgraded to the preferred building? Or should I just call and ask for the Buzz building?

You always want to book what you want (or need). Then when you check-in you can nicely ask for what you would 'like', knowing that you will at least get what you wanted (or needed).

If a preferred room is importnat to you, then you should request or book it now.

An upgrade at check-in is a pleasant surprise, but not something you can count on. Counting on it and then not getting it can get you off to a not so nice start.

What do you do? Do you just ask if you can have an upgrade? I was always interested on how people received an upgrade on there room. :confused3

Have a great day

I have stayed at a value resort more than 50 times and have new received an upgrade (or free frig). However, almost every stay at a Delux has resulted in an "un-asked-for" upgrade, except the CR. I never expect an upgrade and never ask, so it's always nice when you get to your room and are nicely surprised.

However, I did try to check in to the A/S Movies one summer, only to find out that they did not hold a room for me there (I checked in at 4:00PM). They moved me to the A/S Sports without asking me. The resorts were full and I seemed to have no choice. Afterall I got the room for a discounted rate, so was told, "I get what I paid for."

Normally when a hotel "walks" you to another hotel you get some type of compensation. One night free, meal voucher and a free phone call so you can let people know where you're staying are typical. You were moved to a sister hotel so it's not as clear cut but if you forced the issue you might have gotten something. If I really wanted movies I'd make an issue, my kid wanted to stay here, I made sure to reserve this hotel please "walk" someone else. You might have said when hotels "walk" a guest the guest gets an upgrade. You might have tried to get upgraded to a moderate.

OT: I complained but no one would listen. I even wrote and complained when we got home. I got a phone call and the CM said, I see you got your room at a discounted rate.....then it was, oh well, you get what you pay for...that was it.

Our last trip to ASMO they upgraded us to Fantasia section. I was a little disappointed because I had requested Toy Story section, but Fantasia was okay - it was a few steps closer to the food court.
