I know that this issue has a lot of people up in arms and I never got an upgrade, i'm just not that lucky, well I guess I am cause I stayed for free on a dvc members (complete stranger here on the dis) res.
I never SERIOUSLY thought about DVC until I stayed overnight in a 2 br at OKW. That tub is enough to change a girls religion! We'd been trying to do WDW as affordably as possible the last few years, since we got addicted. We live in FL. and it's hard to justify staying when we could just drive home )an hour and a half away) but we love the dis atmosphere so we were cramming (illegal as it may be) ourselves, my inlaws and 2 kids into 1 room at [insert moderate resort here]
But after staying in a villa at okw and doing some math we were sure we wanted in. We always rationalized that we only slept in our rooms between parks but as we went more often we found that we wanted to stay and ride the monorail or take the boat into DTD, spend a day by the pool, whatever.
I know I wouldn't have wanted to buy in w/out staying at a DVC resort first and frankly feel like offering potential buyers a discounted night or 2 could only increase the possibility of their buying in. Unless WDW isn't going to give them the best service they've ever had. Getting them into the resorts is a great way to wow them w/ the sense of Homecoming they want to portray.
So I think it's a good possibility that those people who are economically minded may see the value, do we know if these people are having to go to a DVC presentation or anything? Also, some people like to belong "to the club" whatever it is. So going to a DVC resort and feeling like they were "in" may be enough to make them want more.
