Free upgrade to OKW or SSR, but no car??

Nope we couldn' get in.... :sad1: We did ask about a 2 bedroom and were flat out told NO. The offer was for either a studio or 1 bedroom. Good luck to everyone else though.

Any particular reason most people are choosing SSR over OKW? (making me second guess my decision) Or is that simply all thats available or offered for your times?

Don't fret...they're both fine and each has advantages/disadvantages. OKW has a little more space in the studio with 2 beds; the SSRs have a pull out couch in theirs instead of the 2nd bed. If you want 2 beds, maybe slight advantage OKW...if you wanted a sitting spot, advantage SSR. Both have multiple bus stops within the resort, but often I find OKW busses less crowded at the park bus stops. Then again, SSR runs more busses on their route to account for the additional busy-ness. Both have boats to Downtown Disney...OKW has a longer boat ride (if you're in a rush, advantage SSR...if you like boat rides, advantage OKW).

The only way that I would consider one resort better than the other is if you compare 1-bedroom villas. The ones at OKW are MEGA-bigger than SSR...Actually, they're larger than any other 1-bedroom DVC in WDW. So if you're getting a 1-bedroom villa...OKW is the way to go...it's cavernous and vast in there!

Enjoy. As a DVC member I'm torn on these upgrades. When they don't impact me, and if those DVC resorts were going to otherwise be empty, then no problem - get some folks in there and let them taste the DVC life. But if I call on short notice to book a DVC place and can't get one...that would peeve me to see so many free upgrades to DVC at the same time a DVC member cannot book a studio (and yes...it happened to me last year!). I'm possibly going up in August on a short-notice trip...so I'm keeping an eye on the upgrades and offers. I still haven't decided if I'll use DVC points, or just pay for a hotel separately.

It'd be kind of ironic if I booked a cheap room, then got an upgrade offer to DVC! :)

I chose it for a few reasons.
1.) When we got the email I did some searching on here and thought it fit my husband and I better
2.) Love horses, and honestly, probably won't stay here again because of price
3.) I read OKW CS wasn't as great
4.) Elevators- I have a disability and even though I don't always use my chair, I'd rather have them than not. I don't know if being a wheelchair accessible room always means the first floor, so just in case, it seemed smarter for me.

Anyone get this upgrade and book through a TA? I am thinking that is probably why I didn't receive one. . . . .bummer. Oh well, I am still going to Disney!!!

We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom villa at SSR to! Not only did we get a room for ourselves but they upgraded my mother and my brother and his family as well. We are registered as a grand gathering so maybe thats why they gave it to all of us. I figured there would be some kind of catch, like they would take away the free dining or something but the cast member assured it was the real deal. lol My family was so excited when I told them the news! Free dining and SSR, I am just so excited I am about to burst. :goodvibes I hope everyone else can get lucky to.

I am so bummed by this. :sad2: We have a GG with 5 rooms at Pop and not one of us got an email. We are going 9/17 thru 9/27 and the rest are staying 9/19 thru 9/27. One of the ladies DD babysits for is also going the same week we are and got the email pin.

I know I shouldn't be upset since we are still going to Disney and getting the free dining, but every year they offer these free upgrades in September and I read about everyone getting the upgrade on the DIS. We were never lucky enough to get the pin code to take advantage of the offer. Sorry, just venting!

Anyways congrats to all that got the free upgrade! I am happy for all of you and know whichever resort you choose will be great! :cool1: I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of us in our GG will get a little pixie dust, though it sounds like they are filling up both resorts quickly and our chances are dwindling.

One quick question...because I am hoping and praying for a pin code to upgrade. It would be a great Bday present for my Dad.

Those who have received a code, have you completely paid for your trip?

No, we got upgraded from All-Star Sports to SSR 1BR Villa. They said our due date would stay the same, and we kept free dining as well!:dance3::cheer2:

Any particular reason most people are choosing SSR over OKW? (making me second guess my decision) Or is that simply all thats available or offered for your times?

I think SSR is newer, so maybe that influences some. We went with OKW and I did have a choice. OKW offers 2 queen beds! I will be traveling with my sister, and at my age (50+) I just dont want to sleep on a sofa bed :rotfl:! I do think both properties are very nice. I know most folks would jump on the one bedroom too if offered, but again those villas come with a king bed and a sofa bed in the living room - great for couples with kids, but two middle age sisters traveling together, well one of us would get a black eye for wrestling over who got the real bed . Thank you, I'll still to the studio with the 2 beds. Its such a great offer, plus we wont be in the room that much. I just want my own bed and dont want to wrestle for it!!!

Got the pin, called and CM says no availability at either resort! :sad1: SO disappointed! This is our first trip, and were thrilled about the upgrade.

You could try changing your dates to see if something comes available! Worth a try, as several have reported doing something similar! Good Luck!

We went with SSR b/c (1) it's newer and I always go with a newer hotel when there's an option and (2) it's just the two of us so I wanted a king size bed.

Good luck to everyone who hasn't gotten the pin yet.

pixiedust: Just sending some good vibes and pixie dust for all the folks who didn't get the upgrade code or no rooms left for your dates! Here's hoping something magical happens for you too!!

I received pin code at 10:00am, but did'nt check email tilll 2:45pm. I called immediately, but no availablity on upgraded rooms for my dates. Seems alot of people are going the same week as us. Sept.26-oct 3 to get free dining and food and wine. We are doing the salute to miltary upgraded tickets so we will only in the room to sleep, which is why I booked a value in the first place. It would have been nice, but not that big a deal. I got the adrs that I wanted and that's way more important to me than an upgraded room. Congrats to those who got their upgrade.

Does anyone have a pin they have tried that they would share with me? I'm not above calling Disney and them telling me the pin has already been used. I would just love the opportunity to try and get this deal....

Thks!

Does anyone have a pin that they aren't going to be using or that didn't work out for their dates? I would love to have an opportuinity to see if I could upgrade. Thanks

I think pins are specifically linked to a persons name to prevent trading/swapping etc. I could be wrong though. Either way, Ive used mine already, but im sending good vibes your way that you receive one:goodvibes

ok so how do i get this e mail from Disney??????
I feel like it is like this secret club and i don't know how to get in :(
any thoughts??????????????????????
can't afford the upgrade but I would love it

Ohh, I am so jealous right now. 2 years ago when this happened we didn't get one either. As I remember they were only doing it if you were staying over Labor Day weekend and we arrived on Tuesday. I got so excited checking out the room at SSR. They look so cool.

And now I see that this year it seems be over a longer time. But I haven't gotten a PIN yet? Actually, I have never gotten a PIN from Disney. What am I doing wrong? Going at least once a year? :rotfl2:

I'm hoping I'll still get one-it would be so special if we did-my DM will be 70 this trip and DD is turning 10. So it's a big birthday celebration for us. 2 Big O's.

I'm going to check all my email accounts just to be sure.
