I sent requests today of my NY rep. For May 9. I'll let you all know what I hear.
Hey, I wanted to update you all on our efforts to gain free tickets to Kennedy Space Center for May 9th.
Our group is 10 people from two households (me and my family, and my mom and sister). Everything I did I did in duplicate so that I could request 4 tickets and my sister could request 4 tickets.
I sent email requests in early October through a "Contact Us" type link on the congresswoman's website and heard nothing from them.
Late October I sent regular mail (USPS) to the office of my congresswoman.
Dear Ms. S., or designated representative:
Our family is traveling to Florida in May, 2014. We respectfully request that your office representative reserve general admission tickets for our family to visit Kennedy Space Center on May 9th, 2014. This can be done through NASA Headquarters at the Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs: 202-358-1067 (office); 202-358-4343 (fax); CongressionalRequest@mail.nasa.gov.
We understand that your assistant will need the following information:
Constituent Point of Contact: Mrs. SB, 8xx P Road, Town, State xxXXX.
Amount of Adults: 3
Amount of Children (ages 3 to 11): 1
Date of Requested Tour: May 9, 2014
Member of Congress: Louise S.
Congressional Staff Email Address: You must include. (Please use an official congressional email address).
Congressional Staff Telephone Number: Staff member's number.
Thank you in advance for working to procure these tickets for our family.
Within days I received a phone call. The rep, (Caitlin) had contacted NASA and been told they are only book six months out. Now - I must measure six months differently than NASA (which is a bit scary, IMO) and they told Caitlin to call back December 1st (which was a Sunday).
December 9th I got a phone call from Caitlin saying she was happy to tell me that our requests were being honored (she knew I was point person for both households) and that she needed my email address to forward me the email she had received.
This is what that email looked like:
Caitlin,
Thanks for contacting us. We will be able to grant this request for:
K D - 2 adults and 2 children - 5/9/14
S B - 3 adults and 1 child - 5/9/14
Admission tickets include a second day free for use at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® (must be used within seven days).
We will email you about a month prior to the tour date with more information and a confirmation number. This confirmation number will be all they need to pick up their tickets at the Visitor Complex on the day of their tour.
Thank you,
NASA Headquarters
Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs
The rep, Caitlin, did NOT include the senders email address, or I'd share that, too.
Hoping this helps someone!!!!
