free tickets to Kennedy Space Center

I seriously doubt that. I am not affiliated with the same political party as my Congressman. I was nice and polite in my email. Although I don't agree with his political views, I can't see being ugly to someone when I am asking for something from them. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I will try again. I just got a no and was sent a link to his email site for donations.

Well, it could be a case of what I said:

You contact your congressman (or woman :)) and ask for tickets to the Kennedy Space Center for a specific date. If they are available (there are a limited number for each day that the congressional members can get).

Be aware that some congressmen/women don't know about this. When I contacted ours, she replied back that she can get tickets for the Kennedy Performing Arts Center. I had to point out to her that she can also get the Kennedy Space Center tickets. It took her about 2 weeks to figure it out and get back to me.

As I said, they are (generally) issuing tickets about 6 months from now, so you need to make the request pretty early.

I didn't realize you could possibly get tickets from your congressional representative! I just sent an e-mail to mine, asking about tickets for December. Very short notice, so I doubt it'll happen, but it's worth a try!

I had mentioned earlier that the first time I contacted my Congressman's office to request tickets I was told they could get me tickets for Washington Tours, but not the Space Center. So, I cut and pasted the information from this board as to who they should contact about the tickets and sent it to her. She thanked me and said she was unaware of the program. She checked (this was in July) and said all tickets (at least for Delaware) were gone until February and on August 1st she could request February tickets. She notified me when she sent the request and than a couple of days later she notified me that we got the tickets. They will be send me an email a month before that will serve as our tickets according to her. That gave me the impression that you might have to ask 6 months in advance, but I doubt that is true all the time. Good luck to everyone with your requests.

I wonder if this goes by your political party affiliation. Last time we went my congress person was not nice about my request at all. I will try again next year when we are closer to the date.

Let them know they are not likely to get a vote from you in the next election!

That is right, you just get an email with a confirmation code. At KSC you go to the booth for reservations and they have your name on a list.

I sent requests today of my NY rep. For May 9. I'll let you all know what I hear.

Here is emails to my congressman.

Email 1 from congress woman's assistant

"We received your letter regarding tickets for the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and were able to find a few things for you. Based on what you sent, you are looking for two tickets on May 11th, or May 10th. Do you have a preference for one date over the other? Additionally, I would need to submit the number of adults and children that will be joining you (there is a maximum of four), and to confirm that you would be the point of contact for the tour.

Please let me know if there is anything I may have missed or can otherwise help you with. Thanks for reaching out to us!"

Follow up email me

"Thank for the fast response. I would prefer May 11th 2014 but am flexible on the two dates. It would be for 2 adults. Thank you for your time."

2nd Email from assistant to congress woman

"That sounds great, Erica. Im more than happy to help out and I will request the 11th for you. Unfortunately, they only take reservations 6 months in advance, but Ill be on the front end of things and have that submitted for you."

I am hopeful this means we will get two free tickets I am trying not to get my hopes up but I think it is too late for that LOL. Crossing fingers. Should know by next month I hope.

Thank you everyone I did contact my local congressman and got this reply back from his assistant

The Kennedy Space Center sent me the following email:

Thanks for contacting us. We will be able to grant this request for 3 adults on 5-26-14. Admission tickets include a second day free for use at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® (must be used within seven days).

We will email you about a month prior to the tour date with more information and a confirmation number. This confirmation number will be all they need to pick up their tickets at the Visitor Complex on the day of their tour.

Thank you,

Anyone from Massachusetts 1st district have any luck? I'm still waiting to hear a response to my request. Thinking I better follow up with another written request. First attempt was email.

I got my tickets from John Olver's office when he represented the 1st district. My initial contact was via the contact form on his web site. His office did a nice job with the KSC tickets.

Here's the contact form for Richard Neal -- not sure if you that's what you used when you refer to emailing them previously.

I don't think my representative responds to mail unless it contains a large check.

Thanks, Jcarwash. That is the contact form I used for Congressman Neil. I'll give it another try via snail mail and a phone call. I appreciate your help. :)

I just emailed my request to my congressman in North Carolina, Howard Coble. Ill let you know what happens! Fingers crossed!!:):):):)

Hey, I wanted to update you all on our efforts to gain free tickets to Kennedy Space Center for May 9th.

Our group is 10 people from two households (me and my family, and my mom and sister). Everything I did I did in duplicate so that I could request 4 tickets and my sister could request 4 tickets.

I sent email requests in early October through a "Contact Us" type link on the congresswoman's website and heard nothing from them.

Late October I sent regular mail (USPS) to the office of my congresswoman.

Dear Ms. S., or designated representative:

Our family is traveling to Florida in May, 2014. We respectfully request that your office representative reserve general admission tickets for our family to visit Kennedy Space Center on May 9th, 2014. This can be done through NASA Headquarters at the Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs: 202-358-1067 (office); 202-358-4343 (fax); CongressionalRequest@mail.nasa.gov.

We understand that your assistant will need the following information:
Constituent Point of Contact: Mrs. SB, 8xx P Road, Town, State xxXXX.
Amount of Adults: 3
Amount of Children (ages 3 to 11): 1
Date of Requested Tour: May 9, 2014
Member of Congress: Louise S.
Congressional Staff Email Address: You must include. (Please use an official congressional email address).
Congressional Staff Telephone Number: Staff member's number.

Thank you in advance for working to procure these tickets for our family.

Within days I received a phone call. The rep, (Caitlin) had contacted NASA and been told they are only book six months out. Now - I must measure six months differently than NASA (which is a bit scary, IMO) and they told Caitlin to call back December 1st (which was a Sunday).

December 9th I got a phone call from Caitlin saying she was happy to tell me that our requests were being honored (she knew I was point person for both households) and that she needed my email address to forward me the email she had received.

This is what that email looked like:

Caitlin,

Thanks for contacting us. We will be able to grant this request for:

K D - 2 adults and 2 children - 5/9/14
S B - 3 adults and 1 child - 5/9/14

Admission tickets include a second day free for use at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® (must be used within seven days).

We will email you about a month prior to the tour date with more information and a confirmation number. This confirmation number will be all they need to pick up their tickets at the Visitor Complex on the day of their tour.

The rep, Caitlin, did NOT include the senders email address, or I'd share that, too. :(

Hoping this helps someone!!!!

OH - and for the record... I did NOT vote for our congress woman. I am in the "other" party.
