Free Internet - WiFi router - Techie question

I know that WiFi is not free but that wired Internet is for members.

But do they bind the free internet to the router itself? The reason I ask is that my daughter will want to bring her own laptop ( and I also have my iPod touch with me in addition to my laptop ). If I bring my wireless router, will I need to validate the MAC address or each device or will they just validate the MAC address of the wireless router and I can go on about my business.

Also, if we're booking two rooms on points, do they both get free Internet or just the room the actual MEMBER is staying in?

No worries there.. we brought a router and had 3 laptops going (..don't ask.. we're on vacation I know) and never saw a charge. I believe they authenticate to the router.

Haha no questions there! We'll likely be the same. I'll have my laptop for photo editing, DW and DD will likely have theirs, cause they are surgically attached and I'll have my ipod touch also. :)

If you use a WiFi router - do you have to have a laptop attached to it, to authenticate? DW and myself both have iPhones and I'm thinking about taking a WiFi router with me in December so that we can use our iPhones in the room over WiFi. But I don't have a laptop I can take.

I took my Belkin wireless router to OKW last month and it worked great. I plugged the router in with the ethernet cord turned my laptop on and it found my wireless signal. We used it for the entire week. You will get the Disney screen that says $9.95 for 24 hours from time to time but if you are a DVC member on points there is no charge. I believe Disney tech support is #56 on the room phone. Good luck and have a great trip.

I used my Airport Express with my iPhone but it had been previously configured at WDW when I brought a laptop. In the end I usually just used 3G because the Disney internet access annoyingly requires re-signing in after a period of non-use. Sometimes this can happen in the middle of typing a longer e-mail.

So, does this mean that if I have an extra configured router at home (or unplug the regular router I use) I can just take that router, connect it (via the ethernet cable), and my laptop will find my connection like it will at home (again, assume the router and laptop have already been configured at home)?

Thanks

It should, yes.

And what about the second question, if we've got more than one room rented on points, do all those rooms get the free WiFi or just the room where the actual Member is staying?

If booked on points, both would get free wired internet service.

There is another thread on which the poster stated that both their room and the other room that was booked with their points did get free internet. They asked at check-in. This has been a grey area but seems to be working in favor of DVC members.
