I have the free dining plan for November. I have DD14 and DD9. Thinking about putting the DD9 in as an adult. This would allow all dining credits to be adult. If either DD14 or DD9 order a kids meal, I could use an adult credit or I could pay OOP if I want. This would allow more adult counter or table service credits during the week possibly allowing another table service during the week.

Some cost increases that I can think of involved with changing DD9 to an adult:
Park ticket will increase about $20 based on old prices. I already booked before ticket increases but if I change DD9 to an adult now, after the increase, would I have to pay for the ticket increase also?
More tip money because paying adult prices at buffet Table services?

Anything else I am missing changing DD9 to an adult for free dining: other cost increases, disadvantages, etc?

Those are about it from what I know (which, I'll say, isn't all that much :p).

Since you'd be editing your tickets, you'd likely be paying the new prices rather than the old. I'm not 100% sure on this (I know when I cut my package tickets short last year after the increase, I was paying the new price...I think...), but from the dining side of things, the higher gratuity is about all I can think of that would be different.

DD turned 10 on one of our trips and I opted to have her as an adult even though the rules would have allowed her to stay 9 for the entire trip. It was a good decision. There were a few times when she wanted a kids meal and so I paid OOP for that. A few more times she got a kids meal but got the adult version-same food, more of it.

Can't say about the pricing, sorry.

I have just done exactly this. :)

I am going in Oct with DD 14 and DS who will be 9. I booked with free dining Qs.
I did book him as a child as at the time I knew nothing!! (this is first trip to USA and WDW)
After planning and researching I rang and swopped DS to an adult. My cost for doing this was £20. This is the difference in park ticket price for 14 nights from child to adult so he will officially be an adult in Disney but not on my flights as that would mess up passport .

Like you I think only downside will be I will pay a bit more for my Character meal I have booked as he will be an adult, but that's ok as for the whole holiday I won't have to worry he will be able to have the same choice we have and that will be worth it!
