We are going to be in WDW with FD next month. There are three rooms/13 people. All three rooms were paid for by the same person (mother-in-law). I know since we are a large group, 18% gratuity will be charged automatically. Do they have to be charged to the card that booked the rooms, or can each room "attach" their own credit card and have it charged back to the 3 rooms separately?

Also, one room has 2 family groups in it (MIL/FIL and BIL/niece). Can each of them have a different credit card "attached" to their magic bands for purchases/gratuities?

Also, MIL talked about paying her gratuities in cash. Can that be done? Seems more trouble than it's worth. I certainly don't want to carry a bunch of cash around.

Any info greatly appreciated!

No, they do not have to be charged back to the card used to book the rooms.

Yes, you can attach different cards to each room or individuals within a room so in the case of the room with two families, they can have different cards. If you have different cards attached to various people in a room, you should stop by the check in desk or guest services after the cards have been used to make sure charges are being assigned to the correct cards.

Gratuities can be paid by cash, charged back to the rooms or charged directly to the credit cards. Just let your server know who is on which card so separate bills can be prepared.

Is that a change then? We couldn't put 2 different cards on one room previously

I have a related question about the automatic 18% charge: Is there any way to modify it if you wish to increase it? We're a party of six, so we will have it added to every sit-down meal, but I *hope* to have at least one meal where I feel like the service was so good that I would like to give a full 20%. (Or more if my kids make trouble and it's handled in ways above and beyond, or if they are particularly generous with the free food sometimes given to non-paying toddlers.) We will be on the DDP. Is there an opportunity to adjust the tip (upwards) when you have the automatic 18%?

Yes, you can add on an additional tip.

I haven't ever been able to put two different cards on (for two different people) doing early/online check-in, but have always been able to at the physical desk at the hotel.

Thread is closed, the mechanics of tipping are in a sticky thread on the main restaurant board. Personal tipping habits is never open for discussion (trust me on this one :sad2:)
