I did not get the trip insurance and I am wondering if I should. I heard that Disney has a new policy for those traveling during hurricane season that if a Hurricane is supposed to happen you will not get charged extra if you have to change or cancel is this true.

What have you done?

I didn't purchase Disney's trip insurance. However, I WILL purchase trip insurance through another source. www insuremytrip com

You put in your info and it'll give you a variety of quotes based on your needs.

We bought trip insurance for our Sept 2006 trip but not for this March 2007 trip because I figured we were staying offsite, that could be cancelled, our AAA Disney tix could be refunded, and then we were staying with family for 5 nights. Well, 3 days before we left to fly home from Florida, I got sick, ended up in the ER, and was admitted to the hospital for 1 1/2 days. I begged to be released to fly back to Buffalo and get treated because to change our airfare alone it was $800. Trip insurance would have covered that, plus the extension on the rental car and such. You never know what can happen while you are on vacation so trip insurance is one of those "better safe then sorry" things.

I did! It only added about $100 to our 7 night stay for 2 adults and 2 children. I figured it was worth the peace of mind.

Do you pay for the trip insurance or skip it? I might skip in case plans change so I won't be out my $$ on the insurance. Just wondering what your experiences are.

I get insurance, but I don't get it through Disney. There is a great link I use from Mousesavers.com.

Had not thought of this until now, but DS got stung by a jelly fish, and being dumb midwesterners, we took him to the ER. I just got done paying $200.00 out of pocket and I wonder if Trip Insurance would have covered that. Oops.

Because I am goofy, I listen to a cruise show on the radio on my way to work on Saturdays, and this week they were talking to a lady from Travel Guard Insurance and she said that they cover "illnesses on anybody but your cousin" meaning that if your parent, aunt, uncle, self, children, brother or sister gets ill (even from a pre existing condition - which they acted like was a rare coverage) you can get your money back from a cancelled trip. She said they also help you with money theft... etc...

It was Comfort Cruises that does this show (they book everything and he seems like a nice guy) if you want to look it up online.

I'm not sure what the difference is whether or not folks are booked with free dining or not...you do realize that if the insurance coverage is needed its not like you get 'paid back' for the dining portion, or get to book free dining at another time.

The insurance is only going to pay actual out of pocket...if you haven't paid for dining, they're not going to reimburse you for it.

And Disney is not going to let you use it at another time.

I don't see the need for insurance on a Disney Trip, the most the cancellation fee would be is $200, which is far less than what the cost of the trip insurance would be.

My quote for Disney insurance was only $119 which is cheaper than $200.

I plan on purchasing it just in case we get down there and stuck because of a hurricane. As I understand it also covers flights.

My impression was the Disney Insurance does not cover flights, if it does, then this could be a different story, can anyone confirm one way or another?

I was told it covers flights, even flights NOT purchased as part of a Disney Vaca'n pkg. BUT the pamphlet I rec'd says it is only flights purchased through Disney. I called the 800 # on the pamphlet and a very rude lady assured me the pamphlet was wrong, all flights are covered. Sure would like to see it in writing though!!!!!

I did see this one of the "description of coverage" packets when I first booked my trip in Feb, I took a note of it as it was not like that last year. I threw the booklet out one day cleaning because everytime I make a change (which is often) they send a new one but on the most recent one I did not see where they had it on the font page saying they cover flights even if not booked through Disney. :confused3

Maybe they changed back Anyone else know anything??

I am not certain I did see that on the pamphlet. I remember showing it to my DH and saying how great it was as they did not do that last year. I think they are still sending out old ones as well as new ones. you probably got an old one. I sure wish I did not throw that pamphlet out!

I'm not a hurricane risk in January... but we still did trip insurance and I have already booked it for our next trip. For us, our airfare is a huge expense. I went thru insuremytrip.com and now, if something comes up... I will get my airfare refunded. We also have connecting flights to get to DW. I am insured for luggage delay ($250 per person). So if my luggage doesn't make it, my trip won't be ruined.

Illness and weather are always concerns. January may bring a blizzard. And we'll be covered if it is. It is also flu season. We all just got over the flu the week before we left last year! But who knows!

Finally, my mom has cancer. It is not curable...just treatable. When you plan a vacation out so many months with airfare and such... you never know what tomorow will bring. So the peace of mind I have with Travel Insurance... PRICELESS!

I didn't get it... if for some reason we can't go we would just postpone and not actually cancel. You can reschedule your trip without penalty right up until you check in (as long as the new trip costs at least as much as the old one did).

Disney hardly ever closes due to bad weather, so I figure if they are open, we will be there!

When I was in my AAA office yesterday I was told that the disney insurance only covers air fare if you booked it through Disney.

I will be getting TI but first I got to get
Airline Ressies, then I will get insurance to
cover my whole trip. :)
