Hi all,
Does anyone know if the free DDP offered this year can be claimed by DVC members?

I already made my reservation before details of the Free DDP were relaesed and was wondering, if it applies to DVC members?

Free dining is only offered to those who book at room through CRO, at full rack rate and also a ticket for each person on the reservation. It is not available to DVC members staying on points at a DVC resort. So if as a DVC member you book a room at rack rates and buy tickets for your group you can get "free" dining.

That is a bummer !

DVC members should get the perks, too !

As castleri said, we DVC members do get the perk -- we just have to pay for a room like any other guest -- not with points.

"Free" dining isn't really "free" when you consider the huge discount built into the point system.

Not a perk in my book. If I have to pay rack rate for a room I can get on points and have to buy tickets I don't need because I have an AP, it isn't saving me a thing.

Amen to that! I wnated to try the DDP once, because I've read so much about it, so when my DD13 and I decided to go to WDW on Spring Break this year, we bought a package that included the Dining Plan. We were out of points for the year, so this was a "pay for it all" deal. I paid rack room rates for a week at the Wilderness Lodge, had 2 one day tickets for us, and got the Dining Paln.

I didn't use the ticket for either of us, because I have an AP and DD13 had the last days of a 10 day hopper. We got "free" perks from the package - additional "free" time to rent a WaterMouse boat, "free" rounds of mini golf, and "free" meal vouchers at Planet Hollywood. I didn't ask for any of those, nor did I use any of them, but I am sure that I paid for them in that package!!!

This isn't the discussion for the merits of the DDP (I was glad to finally use it, if only to see that it doesn't work for our family!!) but I will be mighty glad to get to WDW this summer and stay on points, without the DDP. I have the DDE with my AP, and that works much better for our family.

I don't think DVC members are owed anything other than a great stay in a wonderful villa!!

Have to echo the sentiments here.....when I figure out what my costs are, using my points, each year (and that includes two trips a year), I figure I'm getting a pretty good deal. Disney only offers the free dining to those paying rack rates and purchasing a park pass...even if it's for one day, that's one day I don't need or want. Already have my AP. There is no way I can justify staying at POP, paying rack rate in order to get 'free' dining when I'm paying about the same thing using my points, and being able to get the DDE card.
If I figure what each stay 'would have' cost me vs what I pay each year for DVC, and then divide it by all my trips (past and future), I'm coming out way ahead.

I get my AP at a good discount, I can get my DDE with the AP. I get various other little 'perks' through DVC....I figure I'm getting a very good deal. I was happy when Disney allowed us to buy the DDP when staying on points at our DVC resorts. With my dining style, it has worked out pretty well...between that and the DDE card, I'm golden!
