I was looking on US Air's web site for baggage info and noticed in the news section that Active Military with ID gets up to 3 bags under 100lbs FREE!!!:goodvibes:banana: Just to be sure, I called US Air Customer Service and asked if this was just for service members that were doing a PCS(permanent change of station) or could it be used for leisure travel too. Did not want any surprises when we show up for our flight. I was told it could be used for any travel, just present your ID. This is good just for the Service member, not family. This could save $50-$100 in fees. Hope this can help someone!! If you have any doubts, call US Air and confirm.

I am not sure about this, I am sure others will chime in, but I think it is Active Duty with orders or in Military attire.

I know the agent advised something different, but this is one of those items that could become a "he said, she said" situation without confirmation in writing by US Airways.

I've flown US Airways for leasure travel numerous times, and got the free baggage checking each time. There was never a question or doubt by any of the USAir baggage check people. (DW is active duty)

It's 3 free bags, and EACH bag can weigh up to 100 lbs. (though you do still have the size restrictions).

What I don't know is if you can do resort baggage check and still get the free baggage, or if it has to be done at the airport.

Impressive that US Airways offers this.

It's been free for at least 1 bag for anyone flying for decades. Now the airlines charge and 'honor' the military by not nickle and dimeing the military like they do everyone else. Fly Southwest or one of the other airlines that do not charge anyways.

What about discounted airfare for all military personal especially when on leave from active duty and wanting to visit family etc?

We flew SW the last 2 times and it was great, but US Air beat them by over $300 and it's hard to pass that up. :cool1::goodvibes

I'm proud to work for AA - here's what we offer military personnel:

In addition to special military fares, American also offers servicemen and women PriorityAAccess boarding, Admirals Club admission, complimentary space-available upgrades, waivers on checked bag charges, Priority Bag delivery to claim area, and reduced rate shipping via AA Cargo.

Could you elaborate on the waiver on checked bag charges? My dh is active duty military and last time we flew American, "he" got 3 free checked bags, however on the way back the lady at the ticket counter said it had to be 2 free checked bags for the active duty member and 1 for a dependent, either way we got 3 free checked bags, but I'll be flying American without dh soon, and I wanted to see if I'd be able to get a checked bag fee waived with my dependent military id. TIA!

US Airways offe discounted airfare for military also, including for leave travel. Dependents with military ID can travel at the discounted rate also.
