The One Where We Have to Leave
Aka The Boring One With No Photos
Cast:
A quick reminder of the cast since its been about 3 years since I last posted a trippy
Me Joh, 34 sad, sad, sad to be leaving notice I dont say going home thats because Orlando feels like home and Calne feels like that place we live
DH Gary, 40 not looking forward to an 8-hour plane ride with a grouchy wife who, moi?
DBF Christine, 41 also sad to be leaving
DBFDH Mark, 40ish will he be able to prevent Christine from spending any more money today?
Firstly, I apologise for the lack of photos today. Mainly, its because we didnt really go anywhere or do anything out of the ordinary today. Secondly, the camera batteries packed up so I did take a couple of pics on the video camera but I cant work out how to download them. And, lastly, I tend not to take pictures on our last day as I dont want to be reminded of the sadness that is departure day.
Secondly, I would like to rewind right back to the beginning of the reports, if I may. On our first day in Orlando, Christine said to me Its nice but I wouldnt want to come here all the time. Fast forward to our last day, sitting eating breakfast in the Homewood Suites and she turns to me and says Next time we come, well have to She doesnt get to finish as Gary and I both crack up laughing. Looks like shes caught the bug.
So, now, its our last day and we have to leave. We check out of the Homewood Suites, after querying the bill for some reason we have been charged different rates for each room. I show them my printed confirmation, showing the rate I was quoted and it is quickly sorted. We load the bags Im sure we didnt have this many when we arrived into the car and set off. As Im still in non-planning, non-commando mode we didnt have anything really planned for today. Christine and Mark have decided theyd quite like to see Ghost Rider at the cinema, me and Christine would like to visit Earl of Sandwich again and Gary and I still have a quest to fulfil, to obtain some chocolate lollipops. With that in mind, the obvious destination is Downtown Disney. But first, fellow scrappers, I couldnt leave this prime location at the top of I-Drive without a visit to Michaels. We found it easily, Christine and Mark walked across the road to a golf outlet shop and Gary and I entered the scrappers paradise. I thought Gary would have been bored but, to be honest, he kept pointing things out and picking things up which he thought would be useful. I bought loads of stash, with a receipt a mile long but surprisingly spent very little.
We bumped into C & M outside. Theyd had no luck finding a golf shirt for Joseph (Christines eldest son) so it was off to DTD. We parked up at the Marketplace and wandered aimlessly in the general direction of shops. We bought a few bits and pieces, including the much sought after chocolate lollipops from Goofys Candy Company, magnets for the in-laws from the magnet shop (Magnetron?), more scrapping supplies and a Mickey Mouse salt and pepper shaker, as well as some classic Mickey coasters.
Then it was off to Earl of Sandwich for lunch. Christine and I both ordered 2 sandwiches as nether of us are keen on plane food so we planned to enjoy the second one later. As you already know, Im a creature of habit so I had a double order of the same as the other day, Gary had the Hawaiian BBQ and Mark had the Earls Classic. The sandwiches were, again, delicious. The bread is so nice.
Then it was off to the cinema. I didnt really want to see Ghost Rider so Gary and I opted for In Pursuit of Happiness, which I really enjoyed. The storyline was fairly weak but Will Smith and his son were excellent in it and there were a couple of weepy moments. I would definitely recommend it.
All too soon, the film was finished and it was that time. We headed for the airport, stopping to fill the car with gas on the way - $26 for a weeks worth of gas bargain!
We arrived at the airport and did the bag drop, having checked in online earlier in the day (did I mention the free internet access at the Homewood Suites). Through security still quite slow but definitely an improvement on the time it took in October. And then there was just enough time for a quick tour of the shops (we were too late for the duty free shop) and the long and boring wait to board our flight. Just a little aside here as we were waiting to board, Virgin announced that the flight was overbooked and they were looking for 2 people to bump. You would get overnight accommodation, seats on the next available flight and a free return flight anywhere with VA. I begged Gary to volunteer us but he was having none of it. More fool him our August trip would be £900 cheaper if he had
The flight home was uneventful (isnt it always) and oh so depressing. I got a bit shirty with Gary as I never, ever sleep on the plane. I had asked Christine (who was sat behind me) if she minded me reclining my seat and she said she didnt mind at all so I put my chair back a little bit and promptly fell asleep, only to be woken up 10 minutes later because the food was being served and Christine now wanted me to put my chair back up. I was not a happy bunny tip for any possible future fellow travellers or room mates: never wake a sleeping Joh unless shes had a good couple of hours and poor Gary got the brunt of my wrath.
Anyhow, we made it back to Gatwick without further incident or sleep and landed at the depressingly grey and miserable airport about 5 minutes ahead of schedule. Typical they delay me almost 4 hours getting to my destination and then bring me home 5 minutes early! We collected our bags, passed through customs (unmanned as usual) and caught the bus over to the summer special car park. We parted company with Christine and Mark at this point, having had a really great time with them. Just a couple of hours later, we were back in not-so-sunny Wiltshire. Another holiday over - with many more to come in the future (hopefully). I entered the house with my DVC bag thrown casually over my shoulder, displayed it proudly and said Were home, guess what we bought?
Thanks for reading and I hope youve enjoyed yet another insight to the weird and wonderful lives of me and my dearest husband. Weve loved having you along for the ride.
