Hello. I am starting to plan a Disneyland trip with a dear fried of mine who has mast-cell activation syndrome. This results in severe allergies to lots of things don't bother other folks, in particular all fragrances.

My internet research has suggested that Disney resorts can do some deep cleaning and use fragrance-free linens/cleaners etc upon request. I'm curious if anyone has ever made similar request at any of the three Disneyland resort hotels (or DW for that matter) and what your experience was? We recently made requests like this at a local Best Western but they didn't really do anything in advance and she immediately broke out in hives and could not stay in the room.

I've prepared her with information on the fragrances used throughout the parks and obviously perfumes/colognes on other guests may also pose issues. We are hoping mask wearing may help minimize some of that.

Would love to hear if anyone has had similar issues and how you managed.

I can't help with the hotel thing, but I would not count on the mask to filter out ride scents unless they are much less at DL than at WDW. Even masked I could clearly smell all the attraction scents at WDW both in Feb and July.

Thanks for that input. I'm nervous that she will get sick and have a miserable time. We want to go to WDW eventually and wanted to try a shorter trip to DL first to see how it goes (driving distance if we had to leave). I know there is a list of rides which use fragrances, but it seems so pervasive everywhere (even hotel lobbies I believe) that it may be really hard to avoid.

My son, who'd being going with us, typically has been able to get a DAS pass for other issues, so I'm hoping we could at least minimize our time waiting on certain attractions. Her plan is to switch out masks frequently as they absorb scents.

But if the room won't be hospitable it may just not be possible.

I have serio allergies including a skin one to something that is in a lot of detergents. I always ask for an allergy and deep cleaning with no scents in my Disney hotels. Never had an issue with it not being met. I will warn you that you will get your room much later as they usually wash the carpet as part of it and you will need to wait a bit longer for that to dry.

No disrespect (as I have no medical knowledge of what she is going through)- is there any type of nasal "cream"/chapstick type product or even plugs she can use since nose would be covered by mask anyways? Basically to block or override any scents. Of course breathing through mouth is not ideal but as you've mentioned it's nearly impossible to avoid smells when out in public.

or do things affect her even without being able to actually smell them?
