Well, a patent application doesn't always mean they'll implement it, but that they don't want others to do it.
But you know, recently, I've read a TON of "my neighbor/friend said that DL/WDW had this pay-for-priority thing" posts. More in the last month than I remember since February. And I've been secretly wondering if they are actually doing a Beta testing of it on the sly. There just seemed to be too many people talking about it. I know people aren't always bright when it comes to Disney, but THAT many people mixing up Universal with Disney? And talking about it?
I once gathered menus for a Beta test on
Amazon, when they wanted to make menus searchable. Got lots of overtime, got a per diem, and wasn't allowed to tell the restaurants why I was doing it, and our co-workers weren't supposed to know either. It was on amazon, after I quit a year later, for a few months, then drifted off into the ether of BAD ideas. Amazon grocery was a beta for ages before it went to a more mainstream visibility.
All I'm saying is...I wonder if there really has been something secret going on, with certain people being quietly chosen to test it out, and that's what has been reported recently...not just people mixing parks up or assuming that FP requires you to pay something...
But I would't want to be followed around b/c of my cellphone.
