DD is going to Disney in Oct with her best friend's family. They all have 2 day tickets on the reservation for free dining purposes. They all have APs for the rest of the trip and are saving the tickets. DD will need an extra 6 days. I had planned on sending the money to upgrade her 2 day ticket at Disney. That won't work for FP+ though, will it? Will I need to buy a 6 day hopper on top of the 2 day hopper? Or is there a way around that? Free dining requires everyone to have the same package, so they won't let us call and upgrade just my DD'S ticket, right?

If you start over with a 6 day ticket, you'll miss out on some of your cheapest days. It cost a lot more to buy a 2 day ticket and a 6 day ticket than it would to just buy an 8 day ticket.

If booking the FPs ahead of time is important to you, I'd buy an 8 day ticket and keep the 2 day ticket back for a future trip.

I know it'll cost a lot more to start over, which is why I don't want to do that. I'd hate for DD to go and not be able to ride with her best friend.

This will be her last trip barely squeezing by as a child, and she's my youngest. I'm not sure what I'd do with an extra 2 day child ticket.

It only costs $20 more for an 8 day ticket than a 6 day. Unfortunately, I think your best option is to purchase the 8 day ticket and try to sell the child 2 day or use it as a credit toward a ticket upgrade on a future trip..

She should be able to take the two day ticket to guest services and upgrade the ticket to how many days she will need

She will not be uble to do that ahead of time because of the package they are booked under. Everyone needs to be on the same pacage

Yep. If you use it now, you have effectively lowered its value to $20. And I'm thinking it cost close to $200.

Just put it aside and upgrade it on a future trip. If she's no longer a child, they'll deal with that then.

This. After she uses her ticket to enter a park tell an adult to go to guest services (at a park or dtd) and upgrade to an 8 day ticket. At this point anyone from the same reservation can do whatever they want to their ticket. You will pay the difference from a 2 day to an 8 day ticket. The most expensive days are the first 2 so re-purchasing a full 8 day ticket does not make sense.

The problem is, she won't have the same fp's as the family she is travelling with.

Exactly. If it wasn't for FP+, I'd send the $ to upgrade. FP+ theirs a big wrench into it. I may just leave it at 2 for now, have them book MK & HS FP+ with her attached 2 day ticket, and upgrade down there. Crowds are pretty low then, so we'll just cross our fingers that they can add her to the other FP+.

Missed that, you are right!:goodvibes Then I agree with the others, save the 2 day pass and purchase another 8 day one. Do not buy a 6 day because you are effectively paying twice for the 2 most important days.
Ask the family to upgrade her as an adult, say 10 yrs old. Dining will not cost more and her ticket will only be slightly more expensive. This way her 2 day unused ticket will be an adult one and can be used in the future by anybody.
