FP enforcement, does anyone know why?

Everyone is discussing the upcoming enforcement of FP times. Does anyone know why they are doing it. It seems so anti Disney. I mean who was complaining, who was outraged, and what affect did it have on the overall Disney experience of all the people who came to enjoy the parks. I do not understand why after all these years (I've been going to WDW since 1999) they would mess with something so dear to the true Disney fans. It just doesn't make sense. We should all gather together and let Disnet know that their real customer base does not like it and maybe other vacation destinations may start to look more and more enticing

Maybe because people were abusing the intent of the program? Disney was trying to spread out when people were going to the more popular attractions, making the whole experience pleasant for everyone. But people would snap up the maximum numbers of FPs they could and then just returning whenever they wanted during the day, not necessisarily when they were supposed to be in line as indicated by the FP they were holding.

What? How can it be anti-Disney? For the longest time the fast passes have had a return time on them. Most people honor that time. Disney has now decided that everyone should honor it.

I don't see the issue, really.

Whether or not its anti-Disney is a matter of opinion, pro or con.

But OP asks a legitimate question...why now? Can anyone shed some light other than to say, "Well, its about time!"?

It was my understanding that with the advent of Next Gen or Fastpass Plus or whatever they are calling it now, that guests had to abide by the FP return times in order for the system to work.

I am not sure it had anything to do with abuse or whatever, but that the new system made it necessary.

I can't answer "Why now?", but I do take issue with OPs statement "...that their real customer base does not like it...". I think I'm a real customer and I'm glad they are going to start making everyone play by the rules.

Possibly too many people have gotten the word that the FP times aren't adhered to and because of it, it was causing the whole system to be useless.

I doubt it has anything to do with so-called abuse. It's much more likely that sometime in the not too distant future guests will have to pay for the FastPass+ service. To be honest I'm surprised Disney hasn't charged for FP up till now when all their competitors do for their versions.

It doesn't seem un-Disney to enforce a rule that has been around for a long time. Hypothetically If Disney gives out 1000 fast passes during the day for an attraction and 500 people decide to use it at 7pm it is not going to be a very fast pass. It will be slightly less convenient to use them but will hopefully even out the fastpass return lines over the course of the day. I'm not a big fan of standing in a not fast fastpass line and it has happened to me on several occasions.

I'm just praying they don't go the way of Universal and some other parks where you can pay for front of the line privilege. While my family would probably be in a category that could afford it if we wanted too it would be really unfair to the folks that can't. At least the fastpass system is equal opportunity.

Ditto! We visited WDW last December and they enforced the fast pass return times down to the very minute. I had no problem with that! This is the way fast passes were intended to be used, once again people are upset because they can no longer abuse the system.popcorn::

they are enforcing at DL now? when did this start? I know WDW started this year but had not heard of it happening at DL.

They haven't started enforcement at DL yet, but there are rumors they will begin soon.

FP enforcement, does anyone know why?

Maybe it was Disney's original intent.
After all that is how the FP program was designed to function.

FP non-enforcement.... Enjoy it while it lasts!

As long as everyone know the rules, it should be hard to follow.

I heard ( cant recall where ) the new fastpass is going to be based on your ticket type and resort. So whilst you will not pay for the new fastpass system as such the more expensive your ticket ( for example an annual premium ) and resort ( a deluxe versus a moderate ) the more fastpass privileges you get. As you can book them if staying at the GF on a expensive ticket you might get 4 fastpass rides a day or only 1 for a value reort. Something like that. So the forcing of rules now might be something to do with this. Just a rumour though.

That sounds like a WDW-related rumor, not DLR.

As of last night, no FP enforcement has been applied at DLR (with the exception, to some degree, of Carsland).

I heard that about wdw too
And my thought was exactly the same as above
Basically the "rich" will get served while the "poor" suffer, typical USA
Seriously though, everyone pays the same to get in, everyone should have them same rights

Poor suffering? Really? They can afford to enter the park, would hardly state that they are poor. And how exactly are they suffering? Right now they are only talking about people being held to the return times. And that goes for everyone.

Oh look, it's THIS thread again.

Actually the OP's post is better than most as it deals with the "why" rather than the "this sucks".

The NextGen FP system is kind of like making a reservation at a restaurant. I pay a little more and get to make an appointment/reservation to ride Space Mountain. Not enforcing the first-come-first-serve FPs kind of defeats the purpose of a person paying to have priority via reservation.

Seriously though, everyone pays the same to get in, everyone should have them same rights
That's the point. With the NextGen system, some people are paying more. So.....by your logic, some people will have more rights :confused3

I'll reserve comment on my feelings about enformcement ;)

That stinks, especially if you like to ride certain rides in the evening. For example, I like to ride RSR in the evening. How can I time it, so that my Fastpass is valid at night, when it runs out so quickly?
