FP+ and Annual Pass Question

Planning a 2 week trip for this August. 17 of us travelling together, and we're planning on renting three houses close to Disney.

My family (4) will be getting Annual Passes, as we intend to come back down in summer 2015 as well. Because the Annual Passes usually go up in price in June, we are going to be buying the passes early, but would prefer not to activate them until we get down to Disney.

For years, planning trips like this has been no problem for us, but the advent of the FastPass+ system has me wondering if we are able to link our Annual Passes to MDE before our trip and take advantage of getting some ride times. And if so, would the passes then be "activated" (ie, good only 1 year from the time we linked them), or would they still be good until one year after the first day we're actually going into the parks?

I tried looking for the answer on the forums, but couldn't seem to find an answer to this exact question, so any help appreciated.

You can use the voucher number that they give you when you buy your annual pass to link them to your MDE account. Once they are linked you will be able to make fp+ reservations . But right now can't prebook the fp+ at 60 days out. Maybe they will change that for AP holders. The passes get activated when you first use them, which for your family will be August.

(edited to correct some information)

Thanks, Sue !

I don't think anything Disney related has confused me since I started bringing my own family down here in 2004 .... until this FP+ rollout. What fun is it going to be not having the kids sprint from the International Gateway to Soarin' to get those Fast Passes for the group ? Lol. Hope all the bugs are worked out by August.

You need to have an onsite stay first, as of now, to be able to prebook FP+. This could change of course, but as of now, that seems to be the rule.

Thanks for the correction. Now that I think about it, when we went to WDW in December we bought 6 day tickets and then upgraded to annual passes when we got there. That way I was able to make the fp+ reservations at 60 days out.
