Four officers shot. So sad. Please pray for the families!

Disgusting...:sad2::mad:

Clemmons has an extensive violent criminal history from Arkansas, including aggravated robbery and theft. He has also recently been arrested and charged in Pierce County for assault on a police officer and for rape of a child. After hours of calling Clemmons a "person of interest," Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer declared Clemmons a suspect early Monday.

Peace be with the families.:guilty:

I thought surely there must be something on the DIS about this, and was surprised to find in way down on page 3.

Really sad and scary situation out there.

Four officers assassinated in a planned ambush as they sat in a coffeeshop, working on their laptops.

The suspect, Maurice Clemmons, still at large in the Tacoma/Seattle area, believed to have been injured in the shooting, was helped overnight by acquinatances.

The four officers leave behind a total of 9 children:

• Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39. He had 13 years of law enforcement experience, and is survived by a wife and 3 children.

• Officer Ronald Owen, 37. He had 12 years of law enforcement experience, and is survived for his former wife and a daughter.

• Officer Tina Griswold, 40. She had 14 years of law enforcement experience, and is survived by her husband and two children.

• Officer Greg Richards, 42. He had eight years of law enforcement experience, and is survived by his wife and three children.

I hope John Walsh rails on his sorry butt. Not to mention the enmity of every police officer all over the nation won't like him either.

I live right around the corner from when this happened. Its just heartbreaking. I really dont know what else to say. I see these men and women around town everyday. The female officer was at my sons school opening. My heart breaks for the families.. the 9 children who lost a parent... The Lakewood PD. Its a sad day around here. :sad1:

It's just so terrible, especially right on the heals of another similar attack on two police officers in Seattle on Halloween. I can only imagine the pain that police officers in our state are going through, let alone the familes of all of these brave souls.

I hope that they're able to catch the suspect soon.

ugh! Too eerily familiar - similar slaughter of police officers in Oakland earlier this year.
Prayers for the families & the residents of the area.

this man was in jail in arkansas for 95 years, but mike huckabee commuted his sentence and he has since served time for other violent crimes in other states, including the rape of a child. had he been made to serve his sentence, a child would not bear the physical/emotional scars of this monster and the 4 officers would still be alive. once again, the justice system fails. my thoughts and prayers are with the families.

I'm not usually a chicken, but I drive a silver Grand Marquis, and my car is mistaken for an undercover cop car often (as evidenced by the reactions of cars around me). I wouldn't go out today, even though I needed to do shopping for December. I just didn't feel safe with this scary guy around.

As hubby said last night, it takes a scary scary person to just walk up to *four* cops like that...normal people keep cops at a distance, "yes officer"ing them, most criminals try to *avoid* cops...this dude is frightening.

I read the 95 year number too. Found this:

According to the Times, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison in 1990 for burglary and theft, when he was 18 years old; he had already been serving a 48 year prison sentence at the time, and faced another possible 95 years behind bars on separate charges. Huckabee reportedly commuted that sentence, pointing to the fact that Clemmons was just a teenager.

They don't throw those sorts of sentences at *teenagers* willy nilly. There's a *reason* they gave a teen serving a 48 year sentence a 60 year sentence, with another 95 years coming.

That person is NOT the person you give clemency to. The 5 year sentence, the drug possession 10 year sentence...THOSE are what you commute. Not someone who is a *teenager* with 213 years of prison in his future.... What a horrible decision this Huckabee dude made...

He made a statement last night, something like "the place where our thoughts and prayers should be is..." It just felt like he was pretending to be a Jedi..."this is not the silly politician you're looking for"...ridiculous.

The news said the police officers had *nine* kids between them. How awful for them...

staley, I didn't know you lived right down there! How awful for you!

Deb in IA, since it happened south of Tacoma, and no one outside the state really knows the area...it's not surprising that other states aren't hearing about it quickly. Just the way it goes if you're not right in Seattle.

It just makes me sick and so very sad. I just do not get how this animal was even out on the streets.

Those families and that community are in my prayers.

Molly: Be careful!!

I live about 45 minutes north of where this happened and it's all over the news... it is just so, so sad... makes me sick when I think about those poor families having to go through this. And the fact that people actually helped him get away with it after it happened - that just makes me angry.

This guy is a monster. His family and friends are helping him avoid the police that are looking for him. They have taken someone into custody and now they say that they think he is on his own. Sounds like he has a stomach wound and they say he might bleed out.

This is the second police shooting in our area since Halloween. 5 police officers family's without a parent, husband/wife, or son/daughter. It just make me so angry. God Bless those families.

We are just devastated.. I feel awful for the families, and the whole Lakewood PD. We got a call from the school saying that they had raised security, just in case. An that they had extra counselors on hand. we are taking the kids to the prayer vigil that is being held at the Y on Wed, and Alex wants to take some flowers and balloons to the memorial at the police dept. The whole city is feeling this loss.

Sgt Mark Renneger was from my area originally. It is such a shame. His family has been through so much already. His brother was also a police officer, in Easton and fatally shot a fellow officer in 2005 in the police station in an accident.

God bless all them and all the families involved.

I hate seeing Policemen killed in the line of duty. I know it is part of the job and luckily around me it is a rarity but it is always sad. I appreciate the police and what they do to keep our cities safe and make it a point to wave to any I see out on the road.
