Hello all....I have found a new way for myself to pay for our cruises on DCL....my DW and I have cruised 7 times on Disney....most recently in May and booked December 4th Magic...I umpire men's softball in New York....so I keep putting the money I earn aside and continually send DCL additional deposits until the cruise is paid off....but doing it this way also get's me through the days when it is 90 degrees with 100% humidity....I keep telling myself that it will be worth it when I am lying on those comfortable chairs on deck 4 relaxing and watching the sun come up......it makes all those days when I just would rather stay home than go umpire.....it just makes it all worth it!

Hey TChrist05, (Tom) you're our kind of guy!

DH and pay our vacations the same way! After paying bills, we send Disney as much as we can each month so we can have the trip paid in advance. I know others who pay the same way too. It certainly eases the stress and one doesn't feel the awful sticker shock as much. (It's so depressing to still be paying on a trip long after it's over!)

Hey Tom.....my family and I will be on the Dec 4th cruise also...

Since we own a vacation home in ORL...and own DVC....we had enough points to book the Dec cruise. Our PTDQ(Pre teenage
drama queen) daughter is bringing another PTDQ friend and we are booking her on points too. Her Mom is giving us cash to pay for her trip..we will use that on the girls account.....plus I have money taken out of my check each payday and that is what we use to pay our cruise account.

We did this the last two cruises and it is great to have it paid for when you walk off the ship and last time they actually owed us 50 bucks!!!!!!!back. On our first 7 nighter...we had a very hefty cc bill...and we'll never do that again!!!!!

So there are ways......just keep umpiring those games.....

Wow, unless they pay a lot in NY to umpire, that's a lot of games to umpire.
Cap is $35 a game here.

That's awesome, Tom! Especially if it is something you enjoy. Just be careful to not be daydreaming about lounging around on the Magic while a game is going on!!!! You'll have some very angry players!

That's why it pays to book as far in advance as possible. It doesn't hurt the purse strings too much. We started a vacation club this year to help pay off next year's repo cruise. Once you get used to not having that money in your paycheck, it's amazing how easily you can work your budget around it! Then when we get the vacation check in May, we'll just send it in and we're done!

I have a prn (as needed) part time job where the money goes directly to a credit union account. Since I never see the money it doesn't hurt.

Hi Tom!!

You're right....thinking of those wonderful chairs on deck 4, watching the sun come up is great incentive to keep doing what you're doing!

We wish we were going with you. Say "HI" to Sasha for us. I know you guys request him (He IS awesome). Hopefully my family will cruise again soon too.

Happy Planning!!:sunny:

In New York we now get $35 a game for a one man game....and most scheduled games are doubleheaders...so you can make $70 a night....I usually umpire 5 or 6 doubleheaders a week....so you can net about $400 a week if the weather cooporates....so I can pay it off in a couple of months....and after the cruise is paid for I work on the airline tickets and then the tips....if I could just umpire 12 months a year.....anyway....you get paid to umpire and I truly enjoy doing it since I cannot play anymore....it is a way to participate and get paid for it....so.....I just find it the easiest way to go.....and the nice thing is I have a vacation club at work that I save $50 a week for vacations which goes to spending money....we are vacation club members so we do Disney at least twice a year besides the cruise.....just know what keeps me happy.....vacationing at Disney....and I am sure a lot of you guys can relate since I KNOW I am not the exception.....there are people from what I hear that vacation there more than we do....and ofcourse....all my family and friends cannot understand how we go to Disney so much and not get tired of it....they should see the new fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom Wishes....or see the parks and resorts decorated at Christmas...or the ship....the beautiful Magic decorated for the holidays.....ah...I guess I am getting a little sappy here....but it is just MAGICal and we live for it.....and by the way...it is great news about the free soda program on the ships now.....thanks Disney I am a happy man.....talk to you all soon.....keep smiling and have a DISNEY day!
