I am trying to plan our touring strategy for AK on Sat March 7. Some in our family hate large crowds and some hate walking back and forth across the parks. I know it could be a little or a lot crowded at this time, early spring break. Josh does recommend AK on this day. I plan to arrive about 8:20 by bus from Fort Wilderness. I would like to go straight to KS, more animals out early. Now that FOTLK is in Africa I think we could see the first show at 10:00 after KS, no fastpass for either. I am wondering if we could get in that first show at 10:00 even if we can only walk up a few minutes before show time. Experienced opinions greatly appreciated. After these two early priorities, we will move on and use FP+ for EE, Dinosaur and then Mickey and Minnie. If the park gets very crowded we will then leave and enjoy the tranquility of Fort Wilderness.

1. While that is a fine plan, it is actually not a given that there will be "more animals" in the early morning.
We've ridden KS many times in all day parts and have found each trip to be unique
as to which animals are more active and available.
We do like to ride KS in the first hour, but we can very much enjoy it later in the day, too.
2. Agreed.
3. I'd want to arrive at FoLK by 15 minutes before show time.
Which is quite possible if you ride KS, first-thing.

To be honest, we haven't seen FotLK in a few years. I think maybe next visit we will. It is a great show, we're just not all that into shows, and it was closed for a bit.

I don't know all your plans, but there are only a few headliner attractions in AK. Our mission is to hit them when crowds are lowest. If the safari is the only AK headliner you want that isn't covered by a FP, then your plan is fine.

Typically, we aim to ride EE as much as we can in the morning before the crowd builds, then use our FP, then see the no-line attractions/shows/parades/low priority stuff. There are never really lines for the walk-through animal exhibits or gift shops. The bird show is usually walk up, and worth seeing.

Another tidbit to know about AK- if there is an afternoon thunderstorm, many of the attractions close, including: all animal attractions, EE, and Primeval Hurl (pun intended). If lightning is expected, get those done early.

I've been on the safari all times of day, and our best rides have been late in the day. The animals know they get fed after the ride closes. ;) but great tours can happen any time of day, esp with an enthusiastic tour guide. Nice weather is also a big +!

I hear you about walking around the park, but...well, I'd rather walk ten minutes (EE to Safari) than stand in line for an hour. Experience tells me, standing for a hour on the cement in a queue is far more brutal/tiring/frustrating than walking across the park for ten minutes. A little extra walking early in the day means far less standing around mid-day.

We did KS followed by FotLK on a recommended Saturday in September. Unfortunately we were running late and didn't make it in time for RD. Got off the bus at 9:00, arrived at KS around 9:20, waited a few minutes, rode, and then went straight to FotLK with no FP and 5 minutes to spare. The way I see it. If you arrive at Animal Kingdom by 8:20 and go straight to KS then you will have plenty of time to get to FotLK. IMO, you won't be walking up "a few minutes before show time"... more like 20. :thumbsup2

Not a problem to do that. Did it in August and had plenty of time to spare.

We have TH at 8am, then we are hoping to hit Safari straight after, then the 10am FOTLK show... but we also have a fp for it later in the afternoon, so if I think we won't have time for Safari before the 10am show, we'll just skip it and do the fp+ later on instead and just enjoy it once. If we hit it twice, then bonus!
