Calling all Universal Experts:

Never been there before but considering a few days during our next trip to Disney. I'm intrigued by the FOTL deal offered with staying on site....

Is FOTL the same as express pass or is express pass something available to all park patrons while FOTL is only for onsite guests?

Also, do they "run out" of FOTL? I've read several threads that mention express passes "running out".

Thanks!!

Be careful this FOTL thing has converted a number of WDW fans. When you stay on-site you are given a room key for all in your party and it works like express all day long and no running out. You can do Hulk 12 times in a row and everytime its in the short line. It is addicting! Go to Disney first because you may never see it again.:earsboy:

It's actually better than an express pass because you don't have to come back at a later time. You just show your room key and get right in the express line. It's GREAT!:Pinkbounc

It's fantastic.......you are feeling hungry after the long day at the parks and take the lovely winding path to the Hard Rock Cafe - outside waiting to go in is a line all the way outside and way down the walkway - you walk to the front desk show your room key and they say "Certainly - how many in your party, smoking or non - one moment - disappear - come back a few mins later and say right this way collecting menus!! :D It's brilliant!!

Allow me to step in.

Your room key is your FOTL. Every person in your party need one. There is no limit to how many times you use it at any attraction.

The express that "runs out" is both the free and paid express options. The free express runs out at different times (based on attraction popularity) and it gotten at/near most attraction entrances. All you do is scan your admission ticket, either via mag-reader or barcode reader, then follow the onscreen instructions. The free express has limited hours of distribution and will run out when either (A)the amount of express available for said attraction is booked out for the day (B)it is 2-3 hours before the park closes, which is when all the free express ceases for the day. You can only get one free express pass every 1-2 hrs.

The paid express is similar to a room key, as each person needs their card, but there are not as many restrictions on it. With the paid express (Express Plus) you choose when you want to go and express an attraction. The free express gives you a window of time to come back. Express plus lets you go when you choose. You can only use youe express plus once per attraction, though.

Thanks for the info guys!

Wow, I must say that I was never really interested in Universal before, but the resorts look fantastic and the FOTL can't be beat!
And sounds as if you get priority at the restaurants as well...

I think we'll give it a couple days during our trip in May!

At the restaurants, your room key allows you to bypass any outside line there may be. You may have a wait, but it will be less than if there is an outside line.

What is the best way to keep your room keys handy? In a pocket or on a lanyard? I have heard of people losing things out of pockets on upside down rollercoasters. Thanks

It's all preference, as I have seen just about every manipulation. The laynard is popular because of its ease. Then you stuff the laynard in your shirt and make sure the harness presses against the laynard on a rollercoaster. ;)

I put my room keys (and park tickets) in a credit card holder and then put that in a small fanny pack (I put it in the little front pocket and it is then very easy to get to). Fanny packs are allowed on the rides I think. We have to do the baby swap on the big coasters so I may hand my fanny pack to my DH when I ride.

I do the same exact thing. I dont recall a ride that I had to take it off for either. Works out great with the little front zipper seperate from the main compartment.

The fanny packs work very well, as there will not be any rides that require you to take them off. You may need to move them on some, but can wear them otherwise. I'd recommend removing the fanny packs for Popeye & Blutos, though. ;)

Since our little guy was under 42" the baby swap person would hold the fanny packs, etc while the others rode Popeye's. In April he should be tall enough to go on it, so now our things will be getting wet. Popeye's has the center dry area to store things though, right?

I keep a plastic bag (The bags provided for dry cleaning and laundry in the hotel rooms work well) folded in my fanny pack. When I am getting ready to do the water rides, I place my pack and any other items into the bag and pull the draw string. On Popeye's I put the bag into the center area (which is usually wet inside) and on other rides I keep the bag on the floor or on my lap. I have had great success keeping my items dry this way. (I also put a wash cloth in my fanny pack to dry my face and glasses when I get off.)

FOTL for restaurants too?! Can I cancel WDW?! Just kidding, but thank goodness we're doing Universal afterward. Don't think I'd like doing things the other way around. I'm already plotting another Florida vacation, possibly Universal only and I haven't even gotten there yet for our first time!:D
