I'd say it has more of a quiet, laid back, feel to it than the other resorts. Personally, if I wanted to do WDW commando style, then I'd pick another resort. But if I wanted a more peaceful vacation with a home away from home with kitchen, separate bedroom, etc., then I'd definitely go with FW.
We've stayed there both in our camper and in a Wilderness home, so we obviously love it. I like not be at the mercy of Disney for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are a million things to do at FW.
The buses are fine, but assuming you are staying in a WH, you will need to take a bus to the front of the park to catch another bus to DD, Epcot and AK. You catch a bus to the back of the park for a bus to MGM or a boat to MK. We splurged and rented a golf cart for our October trip. It was nice to just hop on to run to the pool, stores or bus stops. For the kids, it was an attraction itself.
I don't remember there being a hot tub. Maybe someone else can answer that.
I would suggest that you check out the Camping/FW boards here.
Just to add--We've been in Spring and Fall and never noticed the pools to be crowded.
