Good News for VWL Owners! Perhaps this will put an end to those "illegal pool hoppers" we hear so much about....

From Mouseplanet:

"MousePad poster Mousellaneous found out about a planned renovation for the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. The renovation project slated to take three to five years will include a new pool area in the next year and a half, which may be inspired by the themed pool at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, including a slide and a hot tub. About a dozen new campsites will also be added, featuring wider and longer campsites."

:thumbsup2 way overdue

hopefully, will cut down on the congestion poolside @ main pool.

VWL'ers should show up on opening day and crowd the new pool and be real rowdy. and leave towels on every chair and then take the boat back to VWl in our wet swimsuits. :rolleyes1

I am there with you! "They" are the only reason we have avoided the VWL for the past couple of years. We are heading back in February, hopefully, we will actually be able to use the pool and hot tub with people who are staying at the resort!

Hopefully the economy won't put a damper on these rumored plans.:surfweb:

you do realize that fort wilderness also has cabins that cost as much as a room at WL. Also, a lot of the RVs that are there cost in the million dollar range. I pay more in a year for my RV than it would cost to stay 2-3 wks at WL.

Mamaloya, thanks for standing up for us, but shhhh!!! ;)

If they don't know what the campground is really like, they won't compete with us for reservations!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

You all keep on going with your hypocritical generalizations. I'm off to the Fort!

Regardless of the costs associated with RV's, cabins, etc. the idea that the new pool may curb pool hoppig is very valid. I find the pool hopping in July at WLV to be so insane that we pretty much stopped staying there, and I do know that the boatloads of kids were from the campgrounds. Besides who cares how much the RV or cabin costs, it is more of a follow the rules thing--you opted for the campground now use the pool there!;)

Well, you would certainly be welcomed by us "they's" if you did decide to show up. We would even offer you one of our chairs and a towel. It might not be a Disney chair or towel, but, being the "they's" and all, we do what we can. Don't you know that if Disney allowed "they's" to take "they's" golf carts out of the campground, we would even offer you a ride back to the city and save yourself a boat ride because we don't care if your swimsuit is wet or not.

I've stayed in both resorts. I've also seen them check resort ID's at the WL pools. Our last trip to WL (May '07) it wasn't the FW guests that were taking up all the lounge chairs, it was the WL guests. Actually what they would do is put their towels on the chairs in the mornings, then go off to the parks. (We noticed this while eating breakfast at a poolside table one morning)Leaving towels on unoccupied chairs and even tables for hours. The pool staff was making the rounds asking if the towels belonged to anyone..and 90 percent of them weren't in the pool...or around the pool. They are left there by Lodge guests who want to reserve their spot for when they return. Oh....and we also had a couple in two lounge chairs next to us, that weren't guests in EITHER resort. They lived nearby and said they often visited hotel pools..those at Disney and others.(We didn't realize this until they were gathering up their things to leave, and they mentioned where they "lived") Go figure. I really think the campground guests get a bad rap for taking up space at the WL. While they did choose FW and should abide by rules and not pool hop. There are also a good many people paying some $350.00 at night staying in the "cabins"(and we've been one of them) who really aren't aware when they book that resort at a Deluxe rate, that it does not offer a "deluxe Pool". Most of us here on the Dis research our trips and resorts inside and out. Casual first time visitors arean't usually as well informed, and it can be quite the awakening to find that the pool..is well...a pool. I find it quite lovely..and along the lines of the pool at the Villas. A quiet pool. I don't see any reason why a FW guest would flood the quiet pool at he villa at all. I could see the draw to the themed pool with slide. Hopefully they will offer the FW guests an appropriately themed pool with slide. It's way over due. The nightly sight rentals are approaching $100.00 and the resort is just that an RV resort..not merely a campground. It should offer amenities accordingly. It just seems like a "no brainer" that updating the FW pool would be an asset to FW and the WL.

You are making the assumption that all the rowdy guests are all from the campground. You know what they say about someone who assumes things...

I think that's good news for all guests at FW, WL and VWL. I agree with auntie that FW guests do deserve a first class pool.

And for what it's worth, I think that canda was trying to be tongue in cheek with the comment. :)
