I just heard from a reliable source that the camper who restored an old Fort Wilderness Railroad car will be at the Fort this year from September 29 through October 4.

Here are some photos that Discamper posted last year:

Here's a link to last year's thread which contains some more photos, details and information about this: This is the Coolest Thing

The camper is trying to arrange to be on site 733 (the last outside site on the 700 loop).

Last year, a lot of folks stated that they wished they had a chance to see it.

Well, now you have a head's up.

Thank you TCD for the credit
If you are there or can get there it is cool to see he does a get job on displaying it

TCD, I just followed your link....

WAY COOL!!!!!!!

Sure wish we could make it back down there to see that!

When I spoke to him last year, he was shocked at how fast word spread on the internet about it. I'm glad I was able to see it last year.

Well, it seems this fellow likes the visitors, because he asked someone to get the word out. And, that someone asked me, so here we are- getting the word out.

If anyone wants to see it live and in person at the Fort, you will have a chance between 9/29 and 10/4.

TCD I have to say he is very nice guy. But he wanted Disney to give him a free site for months just to display it

I saw it the other year & it was in the first slot in the 1000 loop, right next to the bus stop & across from the Meadow Trading Post.

It was pretty neat. He had a lot of old photos from the times when the train was running. He did a great job on the restoration.

This year I think he will be in the 700 loop at the exit end of the loop.

Yes, that's the plan.

By the way, as far as I know, the only other place that you can see a Fort Wilderness Railroad car is in the parking lot of Typhoon Lagoon. And, that one ain't pretty.

Here are some photos from earlier this year of that one:

Please note that some genius has attached boat pontoons onto this car.

Oy!

In this shot, you can see that a window air conditioning unit was installed on one side:

As you can see, there are padlocked doors on both sides of the car. But, I was able to open the doors just a crack to take these photos:

So, this priceless heirloom, and reminder of the glory days of Fort Wilderness sits rotting in the parking lot of Typhoon Lagoon, relegated to the role of storage closet.

Classic.

And sad.

One of these cars was, at one time, used as a ticket window at Pleasure Island. Here's a photo of it from then:

I don't think the one in the Typhoon Lagoon parking lot is the same as this one. I have heard that a private party bought the old Pleasure Island one.

So, my point is that this one coming to the Fort may be the only restored Fort Wilderness rail-car that exists anywhere.

YEAH! we arrive at the fort on oct 2....so I get to see it!:cool1:

Thanks for the heads up!!!:thumbsup2

This is great. He arrives near the end of our trip. I love old stuff and especially train cars. I visited Disney when these were in operation but sadly we didn't go to the Fort.

I live locally and Ill try and make sure I get over there at least once to see the car, and take pictures. Its typical Disney of the one at TL, to use it as a prop and then let it rot. Im hoping they dont do the same with the Flying Dutchman at CC. I saw her last August, and she is starting to show signs of wear, just sitting in the hot sun.

From what I understand, from a RR forum, there are a few more cars that survived Disenys efforts, and are either being restored or are restored. Several are on the west coast of the US, including all 4 engines. 3 different people own them, and are in the process of restoring them. Ill have to look to find the dispostion of all of the rolling stock from the Fort.

Man, I would love to be there while that is on display... I rode the train many times and wished it was still there, as I would love to share with my DD and DW... Glad to see it preserved and it looks great!

Well that rots,:sad2: we don't check in until Oct. 7th......we will miss it by a few days!! I would love to see it.

It's good to hear that a few Disboarders will be there to see the train car.

Y'all be sure to take photos and post them, so everyone gets a chance to see how it is displayed this year.
