Going Camping W/ My Grandson End Of May. We Are Flying In With Camping Equipment, Taking Disney Magical Express From Airport Arriving At 9pm. My Question, Should We Get Our Own Bags And Carry Them To The Bus? Somebody Told Me It Can Take Hours To Get Your Luggage Delivered At The Resorts. We Will Need To Set Up The Tent And Get Some Sleep, Can't Wait Hours For Camping Equipment To Show Up With A 9yr Old. Has Anybody Ever Flown In With Camping Gear? Am I Nuts To Try This???

First, :welcome: !

Are you aware of how large Ft. Wilderness is? Have you reserved a golf cart? If you are getting in in the afternoon I would pick up my own bags just to make sure. Not a camper, but I'm imagining your gear not getting there at a reasonable time.

Yes it can take a long time. When we went in October, we stayed at POR. Our flight landed at 11:00 pm and we didn't get our luggage until 4:30 am. We thought that our luggage would be on the same bus as us, but it is not. Our PJ's and everything was packed away. Lesson learned. You may want to carry your own bags, or you are going to be sitting in a empy camp site for a while

Thanks For The Info! I Stayed At Port Orleans In September, But Got In So Late That The Magical Express Folks Told Me I Would Have To Handle My Own Luggage, So My Bag Was On The Same Bus. This Information Just Reinforces My Concern. We Will Take Care Of Our Own Baggage, For The Arrival Anyway.
Yes, I Have Camped At Fort Wilderness Before, About 14yrs Ago. It Was The Most Wonderful Experience, Of Course I Was Younger And Had My College Age Kids With Me. We Do Disneyworld Almost Every Year, But This Is The 1st Time That He And I Going Without The Rest Of The Family. I Thought The Camping Would Be An Adventure For Him.
And No, No Golf Cart. I Considered It, But Frankly For What It Cost, We Can Do A Lot Of Other Things, I May Wish I Had Rented One...but Don't Remember That It Was A Problem In The Past.
NOW IF THE WEATHER WILL COOPERATE, WE SHOULD HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME....CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Just to let you know,DO NOT put the magic express tags on your bags, this way your bags will go to baggage claim. If the magic express tags are on they are routed to a truck for delivery to the resorts instead of baggage claim, where you can pick them up to take on the bus with you. When you check in at FW ask for a van to take you to your camp site, They will also pick you up when you are ready to go back to the airport, just call the night before and schedule it.Have a wonderful trip. :thumbsup2 with lots of :sunny:

I have flown into Ft. Wilderness and tent-camped. I did allow Magical Express to deliver my stuff. I landed at 10:30 pm and arrived at Ft. Wilderness by midnite. By the time I had checked in and went to the restroom, my stuff was arriving. So they took both me and my stuff to the site at the same time.

If you don't want to move the bulk of your stuff yourself, maybe you could leave the luggage tag off of the container with your tent in it so you could go ahead and set up the tent while waiting on the rest of your stuff and have your sleeping bags in a carryon.

Thanks to all of you. Your help on this was so kind! It sounds like the concensus is to take charge of our own luggage. I don't think it will be too difficult to manage. Thank goodness suitcases have wheels!!!
