My son and I didn't leave Texas until 5 pm Monday, so after a restless night at a hotel in Mississippi, we woke up late. We didn't get in to FW until 11:30 pm! I called and advised Ken, the CM we would be that late. He was so nice and told us to take our time and arrive safely. Will, another CM, was equally nice at check-in. We saw 2 deer as we drove in and that just made FW that more magical. Love our cabin and I did get the 2100 loop I requested. Garden Grocers delivered our food and that was so convenient. Sat on the deck for awhile and it's so pretty and peaceful. I am ready to move in at FW fulltime, lol. Well, I better get a little sleep so we can hit the parks tomorrow, but obviously not at rope drop!

ENJOY the vacation with your DS.......2 months until DW and I return to see the deer.

There is a BIG sense of relief once you finally get to the Fort, isn't there?

I'm glad you got your requested loop.

Enjoy your vacation, relax at the Fort (sounds like you started already by sitting out on the deck), and make some memories with your son.

i loved reading your post! i'm ready to move there too!! have fun!

Excellent, glad you made it safely! There is something kinda special about sneaking in at night!

Your description reminded me of a time years ago when I checked into OKW by myself late at night. DH and I were both traveling on business and were rendesvouz-ing at WDW - I flew in from somewhere late Friday night and he was driving up from southern FL the next morning. I arrived and they greeted me with warm smiles and then gave me a balloon because I was randomly chosen "family of the day"...I felt so bad that it was wasted on me and didn't go to a family with kids, but it was fun to get a balloon around midnight!

Have a fantastic trip!

Fort Wilderness is always so peaceful late night early morning. There's no bus noise. No honking from boats. A couple of years ago, our son (1 year old) decided to wake up at 3:30 in the morning, and was not going back to sleep. As to not wake up the rest of the trailer, my wife and I went for a golf cart ride with the boy. The low fog had settled in, and it was so quiet. We saw about half a dozen deer between the beach and the meadows. We let him run around the sand at the beach and play for about an hour until close to 5 am. All you could hear was the wind through the trees, the lapping of waves against the boats, and a happy 1 year old giggling up a storm.

Isn't it funny how sometimes "things going wrong" such as running late, waking up too early, and missed rides can lead some pretty neat experiences that you would have otherwise missed.

That sounds like a beautiful morning and great memories!

This brought tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful story! We're bringing my DS to the Fort for his first WDW trip and I can't wait! We're celebrating his 1st bday and his completion of two major surgeries.
