Fort Wilderness Cabins without a car?

i think for getting around inside FW you can rent a golf cart....
for getting from FW to the theme parks, you use disney transporatation (buses, boats) like at all the resorts....

You cant drive around the inner workings of FW anyway so a car really is not useful. The golfcarts are parked in an area where you catch the buses. Or if you are staying in the cabins you simply walk up to the inner loop bus stops and ride it over to the transportation ones.

Is it possible?...Absolutely
Is it annoying...well, that depends. If the bus system at any other Disney Resort annoys you, then FW will also. If you're the Hakuna Matata type, the busses really won't be that bad. (I actually enjoyed the boat ride from FW to MK!)
As mentioned above you can rent a golf cart ($45/day approx) that you can leave at the bus stop/Settlement Depot, or near the Marina.
The big advantage we found to having a car is that you can park it right at your cabin, then drive directly to the parks.

When we stayed at the FW cabins, we parked right outside the front door. Is that changed, indigoxtreme? I would consider that a bad thing if you couldn't park outside, it was nice just to walk out the door and get in the car.

We stayed in the cabins for 2 weeks and we used Disney transportation the whole time and we didn't have a problem. In fact we thought that it added to the fun!

We just stayed in a cabin (checked out this morning) I think what indigoxtreme was trying to say is that a personal vehicle can only be driven to your site, from there you have to take the bus anyway as you can not drive to the settlement, marina, etc. The only place a personal vehicle can be driven is to the outpost (bus stop for the the parks) and your site. If you rent a golf cart you can drive within the property...you can drive the cart to the outpost and leave it there while you go to the parks, you can drive to the settlement and leave the golf cart there while you go to the restuarants, marina, etc.

To the original post the bus system at the Fort is very convienet (or at least we thought it was). The bus loops are right in front of the cabin sites, you can pick up a bus from the loop to the settlement for access to the boat to MK, the restuarants, the marina, shopping, etc... you can take the bus to the outpost for transportation to the other parks and the front desk area. We really never experienced that long of a wait for the internal bus... And we LOVED the cabin...

But if I have a rental car, I can drive it to say Epcot or AK if I want to can't I? I don't have to leave it at my cabin and take a bus, do I? The no car rule is just for driving around FW, right?

Same here...my youngest son enjoyed the busses so much, we got him a toy Disney bus to take home as a souvenir! And we met so many nice people, too. I do have have to say I've always gone off-season. Maybe if it were more crowded a car would be nice.

If you rent a car you can drive it to Epcot, AK, or anywhere else you want. You just are not supposed to drive it around Fort Wilderness.

I adore Ft. Wilderness, but shudder to think of staying there without a car. If you're dead-set against a car, you might want to consider another property.

We often go without a car. The only time I really miss it is when I'm staying for a long time and I want to either hit the outlet mall or Margaritaville at Univeral Studios.
