I don't think I need much convincing, but thought it would be fun if anyone wanted to totally convince me to do the Cabins for a week (with golfcart) next Summer rather than the Polynesian.

It will be myself, husband and then 7 year old son. I thought I heard the pools were being rehabbed and slides/water play area added at the Fort. Maybe I'm just hearing things?

At any rate, if anyone's done both, can you chime in?

Thanks!

They are suppose to start on the pool in Jan. With a 7 year old son FW hands down. I have 2 nephews 7 and 3 that love FW which is where we stay in our trailer. But my Sister always has to stay at a resort. But the boys love FW. Golf cart rides, bike riding, camp fires, out door movies, playing checkers at the settlement its just a great place for kids.(young and old) Me and the DW are both 30 and won't stay anywhere else. But we bring our own cart and have our own trailer. Hope I swayed you :thumbsup2

Fort, fort, fort fort, 99 out of 100 drunk otters prefer the fort!

Actually all the drunk otters do, but a sober one snuck into the poll! Have fun! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

There's always one otter that has to be primadonna, isn't there?

Camp at the fort, take the boat over to the Magic Kingdom and then jump on the monorail for lunch at Ohana's. Done deal.

Definitely the fort, no contest. We have stayed at the Poly a few times, it's a nice place to stop over and visit but the fort has SO much more to offer, many of the same amenities as far as transportation, fireworks on the beach, quiet surroundings, etc.
we had disney collection points to use (can't be used at a dvc) and i was thinking i wasted them at the poly, should have used them at the fort.

Thanks everyone! I think I've been convinced ;)

Wait a minute, 'Ohana serves lunch now?

It sounds like you have made up your mind, but I have to chime in anyway. If you've chosen FW, I think you have made the absolute right decision. We used to be poly people. In fact, our first 2 trips as a family were to Poly Concierge. But this last time, because other family members were camping, we stayed at the cabins. We LOVED it! We had a golf cart, which I think helps a lot. As long as you have the GC, there are no transportation troubles. The busses to the parks were every bit as good for us as at the Poly, and the GC got us to the bus stop with no trouble. We will have a hard time ever staying anywhere else. The extra room, both inside our cabin and between our cabin and the rest of the cabins (no one running down the hall right outside our room, etc.) made such a difference. Plus, it really was nice getting to have breakfast in the room - a hot breakfast, which is what I eat, rather than pasteries at the concierge at the Poly.

If you want feel free to read my TRs - the first is from our last trip (May 2007) to Poly Concierge and the second is from our last trip to Disney, staying at FW cabins (May 2008).

Have a great trip!

Leslie

i can only partially answer i have stayed at the poly before and have camped at FW we loved camping so much we bought our own camper our first trip we rented a rv then we bought a travel trailer now can't amagine staying anywhere else yes we have stayed at the poly and stayed at the port orleans also but after staying at FW nothing else will do hope you have fun which ever you pick i'm sure you will there is nothing like the magic of disney

Thanks again everyone! lklasing - I'll be sure to check out your trip report! :)

While I do want to stay at the Poly one day, just because I've never done so, there is SOOOOO much more to do at the Fort! In fact, plan in a few "fort days" where you do not go into parks, but just hang around the campground. There's plenty to see/do. I've been camping at the Fort since I was about 9 or 10 years old and have always had such a great time.

There's the stables/pony rides, playing on the beach, looping with a golf cart (we do this all the time LOL!), swimming, shuffleboard, movies/campfire at night, playgrounds, tennis, nature trails, horseback riding, the water pageant, and lots more! Playing hide and seek at night is the best!

For many years now....FW for Christmas and New Years. Three Weeks of doing what we want to...relaxing, going into the parks, or carting around FW. No pressure, no schedule. The kids and grandkids love it too. Some noise, water parades, access by boat to the MK and via monorail to Epcot. Busses for the others. Can't be beat.
