Fort Swampy-ness!

we are going on July 1st for 5 days,we have a full hookup site but I don't know what site # . When you recieve your packet does it say on it, or do you find out once you get to fort wilderness? I sure hope it dries up before than . Thanks so much for taking the time to post your pictures.

We just returned on Sunday from 8 rain filled days at the fort. We normally stay in Loop 300 by the creek, but this time due to our Annual Pass discount we stayed in a premium loop. Thanks to some great advice and some hard work via Google Earth by a dedicated man who deserves admiration by all for his hard work, we picked a nice site in Loop 500 (530) and we were glad we did. Loop 300 was underwater. The sites were dry, but when you see ducks swimming around the sites, you have a problem with standing water. We had some in 500, but nothing like 300 and some other loops. The dog park was a swamp, but that didn't stop us and many others from turning the dogs loose for some fun times. Like kids they are attracted to mud puddles. A quick hose off and they were almost as good as new. I hope it dries out for our 4th of July trip.
LOL
We stayed in 1400, which was perfect area for us btw, from 5/23 to 5/30 and yep--- we had ducks swimming around our pad/site. Atleast our site didn't get under water but we did feel like we were on a little island (our site connecting to the road all not under standing water but everywhere else WAS)
We had a great time in spite of the rain- but some things were closed temporarily (or continuously since the rain rarely stopped) so we weren't able to do everything we wanted and/or when we wanted to...... but we still had a great time. I know it would be even better if it wasn't raining. The plan to bring less and wash/dry clothes after a week at WDW before a week on the cruise was NOT a good idea because of the rain.... and we could never hang anything out to dry because either it stayed wet (due to rain ofcourse) or just about the time it was damp on the verge of drying- it would pour down rain again. Shoulda brought more towels and I had to laugh the one time I hung out the kids jeans and they ended up WETTER than they were when I hung them out, because of another downpour. LOL When we arrived we thought how lucky we were that someone had already hunt up a line of rope from 2 trees for us to hang towels on to dry- how naive we were... since it couldn't be used when it was raining constantly! LOL

No problems at the parks/anywhere else due to rain though- ofcourse..... except we weren't able to do the hotair balloon because both times we tried it was closed due to inclement weather- even when it was nice out! (i imagine it had to do with wind we couldn't feel on the ground and/or lightning somewhere near but not right there at DTD area) Ohwell- something to do next time if it's still there next year! (and I hope so!)

You will not know you your site number until check in. You can add a request to your reservation, but there are no guarantees that it will be met. Typically it is better to let the assigner know the reasons for your request (close to pool, close to CS, far from road, etc) rather than requesting a specific site or loop so that if the specific request cannot be accommodated he can make a suitable substitute.

:santa:

Just back, and I can testify that TCD's name for FW still stands. It is still Fort Swampiness! I have never seen so much water there. It rained at least twice a day while we were there (6/3 - 6/7), and there was nowhere for the water to go. It is a swamp, with frog and duck ponds all over the place. Our site (2018) was a giant puddle. Luckily we were in our popup- we felt so bad for the tenters. We had to move our screen house up on the concrete so we wouldn't have to swim into it.
