I'm hoping that the Dis pros can help with plans being made for an upcoming WDW trip. We will be flying into the Fort Myers airport late at night, spending the night in a hotel and driving a rental car to WDW the next day.

1. Can anyone recommend a clean, safe place to stay by the airport?

2. What is the best route from Fort Myers to WDW?

3. The prices that I've been quoted--even with codes have been much
higher than other Fla. cities. Is this usually the case? Any good codes
suggestions on how to save $?

Thanks for any help! :sunny:

We have family in Naples FL & have flown into Ft. Myers on occasion, but it is usually so much higher than flying into Orlando or St. Pete, etc that it is often easier to fly in there catch a couple of days in WDW & then drive down to visit them! Is there a reason you are not flying directly into Orlando? The deals are always so much better! I'll call the fam about a nice hotel near the airport! Deb

Im a frequent traveler of Ft Myers so Ill try to answer your question. Ive stayed at the Sleep Inn airport, and it is OK. Im sure it will suit your needs just fine. Secondly, depending on the time of day and day of week, I-75, Through Ft Myers and Tampa will be swamped. Along with the I-4 construction thats never ending, it can be a real nightmare. Ive found the best way from Ft Myers to Orlando is to take......

1. Take I-75 North to the Punta Gorda (FL 35; US 17) Exit.

2. Go east on FL 35 (US 17)

3. Make a right on CR 74 and take it about 10 miles

4. Make a left on US 27. Travel about 100 miles north on US 27. It will take you all the way to I-4, just west of Disneyworld.

If you drive the speed limit, you should be able to make it in about 3 1/2 hrs.

Ft Myers seems to have high rental car rates for some odd reason. Im not sure, but keep trying the offsite agencies (Alamo, Budget and Enterprise). You might get a better rate.

Hi, Deb- We're flying into Ft. Myers because we found an AWESOME
rate during the Easter peak season. Also, we'll be stopping at
Sanibel for a few nights on the way back.

Josh- Thanks for the help! We'll try your route to WDW. :)

No Problem!

US-27 gives you a taste of the "rural" Florida. No one ever thinks of FL being a giant orange field!! Don't worry though, there are resturants and gas stations in each little city you go through.

With the churning of the gulf from last years hurricanes and the prediction of an active season this year the shelling should be great on Sanibel.

Hopefully the weatherman is wrong in his predictions.
