Fort Lauderdale to port of miami

I drive a VW GTI so I know something about speed. ;) We have a tollway here in Austin with a speed limit of 80 mph and I will say that I take advantage of it. But there's a difference between just plain fast going with the flow to weaving in and out of traffic and driving aggressively. If traffic is going 65-70, going 85-90 and tailgating until you can get into the next lane isn't okay. Sorry, I know I wasn't super specific and this was a case where there were toddlers not in car seats in the vehicle. It was NOT OK.
8-) Gotcha. Yeah, my oldest son is a car guy so he's kept us abreast of that 80 mph tollway. We pointedly kept him from making any trips over that way before he sold his Mustang. Thankfully, the monster car took a backseat when he decided he wanted to be a full-time student year 'round (including summers). We drove down to Miami once after the trip we used the transfer and flew into MIA & rented another time. There are crazy fast aggressive drivers in Miami. Crazy. Even more so than I'm accustomed to. They all ride super close and depend heavily on their brakes.

I didn't notice our guy weaving so much. Then again, I probably wouldn't if he did. I know we were clipping along fast in the HOV lanes zipping by really crazy traffic. I was never uncomfortable. Didn't notice the taxi drivers driving any different the handful of times we used them. It must be a tough balance between being slow & smooth and getting there quickly. Too far to either end of the spectrum & someone won't be happy. Right?

I think the FLL rental car experience depends on which terminal you fly into. We flew in on Southwest so we were in the terminal that connected to the rental car garage. Combine that with being a member of one of the rental car frequent flyer programs and the longest part of the rental car process for us was leapfrogging up the escalators to the 4th floor. So, I guess if you're planning on renting a car in FLL, take a look at what terminal your airline flies into and what terminal the rental car building is attached to.
We flew in with Spirit.. I didn't even know some terminals are right next to the car rental garage... if we have to fly into FLL again we will look into SW, thanks!

We have used Jiffy Jeff's both from the airport to port and hotel to port great service

Has anyone flown into Fort Lauderdale and sailed from the port of Miami?
If transportation readily available?/ how much?
Flights from my local airport are more available to Fort Lauderdale than to Miami.
Does Disney have shuttles running?
Hiiii!!! I was looking for this answer too, glad to see a family member already asked it lol

We rented a limo to take us to the Hilton by the port. It cost about $90, then we uber'd the next day for about $10. For our family of 4, it was cheaper than the bus rides from Orlando to Canaveral...I'd have rather flown into Miami for convenience, alas Southwest was cheaper...

I think we are flying in the night before and will stay in a Fort Lauderdale are hotel, as the prices seem much cheaper than the Miami hotels. We will then take some transportation in the morning to the port. Depending on how many family members are staying overnight, maybe a van/shuttle.

Nice to see you here Belle-addona! Although, you were our original disneycruisegal

I also do NOT recommend driving around Miami. We live in the Houston area so traffic and aggressive drivers aren't really a big deal to us.

I grew up in Houston. It's where I learned to drive - I also drive regularly in Atlanta - and I *refuse* to drive in Miami. It's utter chaos. I fly into FLL if I'm going to be driving anywhere in South Florida and I skip Miami altogether if I can help it. The Dolphin Expressway is like full-contact bloodsport.

We flew into FLL in February for our cruise and stayed in fLL at the Homewood Suites. Free breakfast and free dinner (with complimentary beer and wine) if staying Su-Th night. Both meals were very good. Took the free hotel shuttle from the airport. The next morning we used Jiffy Jeff to get to the port. Had Jeff himself drive us and received excellent service. We had steady traffic on the way to the port as it was the Fri of Presidents' Day weekend and I was thankful I was not the one driving. Jeff also picked us up after the cruise and drove us to FLL for our return flight. Would highly recommend.oh and we have little kids and were provided two car seats for the youngest two. Not required for a shuttle but definitely gave us peace of mind.

Used SAS in December. They were late picking us up from our hotel but it didn't matter since our pickup time still got us there before the port opened. They were waiting for us when we got off the ship.
