Formal Night-I made a big deal out of nothing

Thank you so much for the tie link. DS has been at a catholic middle school for the past three years and has had to wear the same tie every day. Next year its off to high school. They get to wear any tie they want. This will be great fun picking out ties, and of course I'll be ordering a few for the cruise. At least he won't outgrow a tie. I think he's grown 2 sizes since Sept. I've been holding off getting a suit for a long as possible, time to go shopping now for the cruise.

But, he is aware that I won't let him walk around like that on the ship. His pants will be a LITTLE baggy-but not what he's used to.

But, he's so thrilled about the whole thing-I don't think it will matter!

My son calls anything other than athletic shoes "fancy shoes", and almost acts like they will KILL him to wear!

Gotta love these kids! pirate:

I completely forgot that I will need to get something for my DS to wear....He owns 2 pairs of shoes "good" sneakers and "play" sneakers.....and I hat the thought of buying a pair of "dress" shoes for a 7 day cruise beause he won't wear them anywhere else (I will have to fight him to wear them on board) but anyway...Can you rent shoes along with the tux? or should I just let him go with the "good" sneakers and his tie (such a charming look LOL) Please no flames on that one....My DS is 7 turning 8 the day we get home from the cruise.....I want us to eat as a family so leaving him in the clubs is not really an option...Thoughts???

I hauled shoes for my boys onboard the last time but I think they wore their sneakers anyway. They didn't wear a tux though. Maybe you can find an inexpensive pair of black sneakers? My son has all black basketball shoes and I think with the right clothes, it would be hard to tell what he is wearing.

I bought my son his first pair of real shoes last year for graduation. They have had some hand me down pairs for a wedding once and I had them for the last cruise but wear sneakers everywhere including church.

Do you have a second hand shop near by?

Denise5374-yes, you can rent shoes along with the tux.

DS is 14 and he is growing like a weed! I didn't want to shop for him until the last possible moment. I plan on using Payless for shoes and sneakers. But, a second hand store is a good idea.

SeaSpray,
Thank you for the web site. I can get the ties here before we cruise. I talked to the guy there and he said it would only take 3-4 days for me to get them, so I ordered some for my DH and my DS. Thanks again, Joni:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Was there anything wrong with wearing a suit rather than a tux?

I thought the whole "to do" about the dress code had to do with those wearing casual attire to "formal" night.

I think the suit is fitting and appropriate to the occasion.

Have fun!

A dark suit and tie are fine for formal and semi-formal night--I'm sure your men will look wonderful! :)

It's the people who don't even make an effort to dress up at all that bother me. It's a cruise, not a Nascar race for crying out loud! LOL!
