Formal Night Attire Question for Those Who Have Cruised DCL

I am thinking of renting tuxedos for my two sons and myself for formal night. I am thinking it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity while they are still boys to get a nice family portrait taken. My wife on the other hand does not want to stand out as "the family who dressed up."

So, for those of you who've sailed on the Magic, can you give me a rough estimate of what percentage of men were in formal wear (aka tuxedos) versus the percentage in dark suits and ties?

Thanks for your help! :D

Please tell your wife that the tux will be great. We sailed in January of 2002, and I couldn't convince DH to rent one. You will not stand out on, espcially on the first formal night. I would guess at least 30% and maybe more wore tuxes, and I thought the families who had all the guys in tuxedos looked outstanding!!
I bet your wife is like me--I hate to be overdressed as much as underdressed, but the tux would be very appropriate, and the only comments made would be how good you all looked!

You will see a wide range on attire on Formal night. You will not be overdressed in your Tux's. I think what you will be doing is setting yourself and your family up for a special evening and be sure and allow time for the photographs.

I agree with NCRedding that about 30% will be in Tux's. I'd say another 40% in dark suits, 20% in dress slacks, shirts, and ties, maybe 8% in more casual attire and 2% in what I would classify as not appropriate attire for Formal night (shorts, jeans, jogging suits).

Go make those memories! Enjoy your cruise.

Don't forget the matching Mickey vests & ties!

Hi, I would like to know if you made the ties and vests or did you purchase them? I am looking for exactly that kind of attire for my husband. Thanks so much.

No you would not stand out, the guy with the black rubber shower shoes and T-shirt is the one who stuck out on our cruise 2 weeks age!

We had the sme experience as NCRedding, at least 30% of the men and boys were in tuxes.
