Editor's note from MiceAge today...

Editor's Note 5/10: Burbank's legal and corporate red tape couldn't get the proposed "Showpass" moniker approved in time, so they'll just be calling it World of Color Fastpass when it launches next month. Get to the Grizzly River Run ticket machines early, and just hope you pull a ticket in either Yellow A, B, C, or Red A and B sections. If you pull a Blue section ticket over by the Golden Zephyr, you might as well toss 'em and wait to get into Yellow or Red at the later non-Fastpass shows. - Al Lutz
I think the color and letter sections to which Al refers are viewing areas. It must be some type of grid. When you get a WOC FP it will assign you an area broken down by color and letter - on the FP. As discussed in recent posts, it appears that of the 6000 or maybe 9000 viewing spots, only about 2500 will be really good. I have heard these will not be the ones in front, but actually ones further back. Sort of a like a movie theater where the seats in front are too close to the screen.

Also, if there are color and letter grids, this naturally brings up the question of splitting up families or groups. Not sure how they can ensure all WOC FPs give the same viewing area for families/groups. I suspect they will have to have some flexibility to who gets to go into which areas. Maybe if you have one person in your family or group in that grid then everyone can go? Or maybe whichever grid of which you have the most FPs you have to go there? Sounds confusing to me.

ETA: See World of Color Superthread for more info on WOC

Hopefully if the "blue section" is really that bad, the other sections are distributed first. I'm sure not every seat in the blue section is terrible also, maybe just a majority. This will be very interesting when actually put into practice.

I wonder if they will be putting the WOC fastpass into testing during any of the soft opening nights. We will be there starting on 5-23, so I hope we get to check it out.

And a question from a newbie. If these passes come out of the Grizzly Run machine, does that mean Grizzly doesn't have a Fastpass? Just curious.

This sounds like a mess! I'm willing to break my own "rule", and go for premium seating on this one.

From World of Color Superthread

Will there be Fastpasses for soft openings?

I have read nothing about this. However, using Fastpass for a show like WOC is an entirely new concept for DLR. It seems highly likely to me they will offer Fastpasses for at least some soft openings so Disney can test the entire concept before they are slammed with visitors on June 11.

Will WOC Fastpass distribution interfere with GRR Fastpass distribution?

Yes. See previous FAQ on WOC Fastpass.

How will WOC Fastpasses be distributed?

The WOC Fastpass is a reservation system similar to regular Fastpass. Apparently DCA will initially employ Fastpass machines at Grizzly River Run to distribute WOC Fastpasses. It is not clear at this point if Fastpasses for the GRR ride will be available in parallel to WOC Fastpasses.

I wonder how many of our DIS-ers are actually going to deal with WoC right away and how many are going to avoid it at all costs for a long time. I am sure that once I saw it I would think it was really cool, but I am not much a show/fireworks person to begin with. I've seen Fantasmic once or twice in my life and that was enough. If I happen to catch some fireworks when they are happening, awesome! But I am not going to stand and wait for them, most likely. I think I would be the same with WoC - if I happened to see it once, great, but otherwise the whole set-up of it sounds like a mess and something that I have no interest in dealing with for a long, long time...like way down the road, after everyone else has seen WoC and it's no longer the new sensation at DCA.

Right now, I think the idea of WoC is turning me off more than it is luring me in...but I am very curious to see how WoC impacts the crowds in both parks and what the new patterns seem to be when it begins.

I'm with you.... We arrive on June 14th and I have no desire to see WOC. In fact, I told my husband it migt be a good idea to let the kids stay up late over at DL when everyone else is at WOC. We'll see....

We will be doing a cop out after I see what the comp passes for DVC are like(if any). I will go for the premium seating!

I wonder if premium seating will get you in the sweet "Yellow" or "Red" spots or not? If not, I think I will take my chances with FP.

Wow, interesting. I am curious to see how this will play out. I am a Fantasmic fanatic, but I hate waiting to see it in Disneyland, I wish we had a theater like in WDW (but our Fantasmic is a little bit better!). I hope this does work and maybe helps make it less of a strain than waiting to see Fantasmic.

Can't wait to get the first reports/reviews from other DISers!

My DH and I were just discussing WOC this morning. As much as I would like to see it, I think we will be avoiding it for the next year or so! Too much hassle!

I also wonder as a DVC owner if there will be any perks such as a fast pass or if I could use my GAD fast pass for WOC?

:thumbsup2 yep. What she said!

This is one DIS person who will be trying to see WoC in July. If the dining package seems like a good way to get a good ticket, I will splurge for that. Otherwise I will try the fast pass option.

Now, who's going to get up early tomorrow and try to make a dining reservation? :)

Well it is a big deal for us because we cannot jump in the car to go see it whenever we want.....well technically we could but that would make for a 22 hour drive lol:lmao: Anywhoooo we will be there. red, yellow, blue, fastpass, showpass, premium or not we will be there!!!:cool1:

We have a trip planned for late June but are going to skip the WoC chaos. At least try! :scared1:
Hopefully most of the kinks will be worked out and the goods on
dining packages will be known by our return trip in August. :worship:
I am eagerly awaiting trip reports from brave Disers popcorn::

I think I'll definitely be reading posts from people who've braved the experience to see how it was, but this is something we will be avoiding altogether for a long long time. I am sort of happy at the idea that it will draw crowds over to DCA in the evenings when they might typically be at DL, but we'll see how much impact that actually makes in DL.

FWIW, just a reminder that those of you who want to "avoid the madness" at DCA this summer and "wait until things calm down" will be waiting a long time.:goodvibes With LMAUA opening in May 2011, and Cars Land in early 2012, plus all the other new stuff, DCA will be madness until 2013!

Don't get me wrong. I am not encouraging any of you to see WOC this year! I hope lots of people put it off for awhile to make crowds more manageable. But alas crowds at DCA will be unbelievable this summer.

Some people view this as a negative. But heck, when was the last time you heard anyone say "avoid DCA at night - it is way too crowded!"? Let me guess... how about... NEVER!

I think the enormous crowds will be a fun experience. To be there and be part of something really novel and unprecented sounds like fun. I am looking forward to it. But I will be listening closely to all of the guinea pigs - uh, I mean, DCA guests - who see WOC in June and early July to find a way to make the most of the experience. :)
